If Cotto-Margarito is a success, does it matter who the winner is?

I ask this question not as a way to place one man above the other in terms of value in the sport of boxing. Rather, would a Cotto win be better for boxing because he has been known longer and a victory over the most formidable challenger in Margarito makes him a poster boy for boxing? How about a Margarito win and how does he benefit boxing? I maybe asking a dumb question but I would like to see what ESB thinks.

Ofr course it matters, if Cotto comes out victorious far more major fights will come up next and a new superstar in boxing right next to Manny Pacquiao and a future #1 P4Per. Can't really see Margarito putting on mega fights even if he wins unless it's a rematch with Cotto, even a fight with DLH won't be as big as a fight with Cotto vs DLH and DLH is the biggest name in boxing right now.
