Why would he fight Margarito if he just beat an ATG in Sugar Shane Mosley? I'm thinking he'd go for Floyd Mayweather and if that fight doesnt happen then maybe Oscar Delahoya. Maybe even the winner of Williams vs Cintron.. But Margarito? Nah

Exactly. If Cotto wins there are two logical opponents. Either Mayweather or the Cintron/Williams winner.

Arum really doesn't want to put Cotto in there with Mayweather or Williams. Before the Williams/Margarito fight Arum was luke warm to the idea of Cotto fighting Williams , and of course he didn't even give an effort to secure Williams' services against Cotto after Williams won.

If Cotto were to fight Mayweather, Mayweather would be calling the shots. I'm pretty sure Arum doesn't want to be told what to do by Mayweather. I'm also sure he doesn't want to give Mayweather the opportunity to gain another big payday while putting his cash cow in danger in the process.

A fight with Margo makes perfect sense. He owes Margo a title shot after doing a poor job of promoting him for so long, practically ignoring him while focusing all of his attention on Cotto. No matter who looses in that fight, Arum wins.

I have no interest in seeing Margo-Cotto it's a waste of time. Margo will never be a factor at 147 he's too limted and flawed. I would much rather see Cotto face PBF, Williams or Cintron.

I agree that Margo is not in the same level as Cotto but you gotta admit it would be an entertaining fight. Margo has a very very good chin and goo work rate which would penetrate Cottos defence quite a bit and since Cottos chin is kinda iffy it would be good. Cotto By late TKO i think though

I cannot see any other scenario unless Margo blows it again cause Cotto would fight him next. The fight should have happened as soon as Cotto beat Quintana and Tony beat Clottey but Arum got side-tracked by Williams handlers and the WBO commission. It will happen as sure as eggs is eggs, maybe not with a title at stake though.

Yeah, it's a huge step down, but I wouldn't mind seeing Cotto beating Margarito around the ring worse than he's ever been beaten in his life.

Margarito is lucky as hell.. he's accomplished very little, but because of some magic he has earned a reputation as a feared fighter on the internet. Then guys like Jim Lampley hype him as the most feared fighter at 147 when he comes out and gets beaten by Williams. Margarito gives internet-using boxing fans a bad name!

Margarito poses zero problems to Cotto. His style will be horrible against Cotto and he WOULD get stopped late. Can you tell me one thing Margarito brings that would even slightly trouble Cotto?

Cotto will fight De La Hoya on May 3, 2008.

Margarito will be on the outside looking in on the big fights, again.
