If Cotto 'quit' v Margo, why did Hatton not quit v PBF??

Exactly! I don't see why it's so hard for people to accept that the man quit.:-(

He quit. Plain and simple. But hats off to him for at least fighting the man. (Did he have a choice?)

Didnt read all posts here, but reason why Hatton didnt quit is becouse he was hit with diferent shots, he was almost out on his feet while Cotto sufferd from body shots broken nose and possible broken jaw when he was hit flush while breathing through mouth, your brains have to bo scrambled not to take a knee in that kind of situation, Cotto wasnt on the way to be KO'ed cold thats why he was able to think properly and realise that its not worth to take more shots.
Both Hatton and Cotto showed heart in those particular situations.

I mean watching the fight if I was cotto i would be getting discourage from amount of bombs margarito was walking through and then coming back with clusters of hard hitting shots.

why the hell does everyone keep tossing the word heart around. getting destroyed because your game plan is not as good as you thought it was is NOT heart. im so sick of hearing about heart. I box as an amatuer and when i loose a round or a fight i don't go to the corner and think i have heart.. i think man my plan sucked or that guy was way better..

heart is what margarito showed by walking through shot after shot or what clottley showed against margo by continuing the fight with a broken hand. hell even hatton showed some heart by making PBF knock him down..

He quit! It was obvious. Yet when I came on the board that night and said that "he quit because he probably thought he would get killed", I was mocked and insulted. Now we hear it from the fighter himself.

Yeah, hats off to him for fighting "whoever Bob Arum puts infront of me".

Hats off to Paul Williams too. Hats off to Quintana for fighting Paul Williams, hats off to Paul Williams for taking the rematch, hats off to Margarito for fighting Cotto who anhiliated Quintana who beat Williams who beat Margarito.

Hell never wear a hat again!

I am big enough to admit when I'm wrong, of course I am, I'm not a child, if Miguel Cotto is saying the decision was his to quit then I was wrong, but for all the world I'll never know how any of you knew this before he made this claim. He got up from the knee, at the same time his uncle jumped up on the apron and waved the white flag, the ref saw him and waved it off. I have no idea how from those events, you guys knew Miguel had made the decision. How could you know this?? But hey as I said, if Miguel Cotto said that (and I would prefer to have it verified as I don't trust anyone who behaves like "BigReg"), then I admit I was wrong. Happy now?? :-D

Everyone told you that he signaled to his uncle on when he ran across the ring to take the knee. You ignored the evidence because you love Cotto.

You are man enough to admit you were wrong though, so you get mad respect from me. :)

I actually don't love Cotto at all. I appreciate him as a boxer, and I like him because I think he was so brave v Margarito, but I don't like him anymore or rate him any higher than I do Margarito, or De La Hoya, or David Haye, or Israel Vasquez, or any number of current boxers. I do have my favourites and I do have guys I'm not so keen on just like everyone else, but I don't have strong enough feelings on Cotto to put him in either category. I just thought that it was clear-cut black-and-white that Evangelista looked at the state of his nephew and made the decision, and it really pissed me off that people were calling into question his heart and his courage, which I just thought was so wrong. I still do not see what the 'signal' to his uncle was, he looks to the corner but makes no gesture as far as I can see, just like every fighter looks to their corner at times like that for support/instruction/encouragement, and then he gets up??? I honestly don't understand how he quit. Why didn't he just stay down on the knee then, like Morales did in the 3rd Pac fight? Why bother getting up and somehow signalling to your corner to stop it instead? But hey, as I said, if the man himself is saying it was his decision then it's pointless trying to argue with that. I was wrong!! Cheers for the last comment anyway Dave, you're a good man after all! :good

Ha ha, you can't not admit it when you're caught bang-to-rights, after arguing for pages and pages, and then that ******* Cotto comes out and ****s up my whole defence of him, ha ha!! :patsch

Cheers for the comment Pimp, when we can end a debate like this and not the usual mudslinging like that BigReg dude gets into, it makes the ESB the great place to debate we all know and love :good

See you in another thread amigo :happy

I find this sentence somewhat annoying because there have been braver fighters against Margarito who never got the love Cotto is getting.

Cotto is 'getting love' only because the fight is still fresh in the memory, as is the image of his deformed facial features and weeping family by the end. Saying that I thought he was brave does not mean I think he is the bravest fighter in the world, nor does it mean I have forgotten feats of greater bravery in the past. For example, I can't stand Paulie Malignaggi, but I can objectively say that him fighting on v Cotto with a broken cheekbone, or Arthur Abraham fighting on v Edison Miranda with a broken jaw, are more impressive feats of bravery. However, that doesn't mean in the aftermath of a stunning fight, we can't take the time to salute Cotto's efforts under incredible pressure. Still annoyed?
