Im not saying this is a gimme fight, im probably the last person on this board who thinks this is a gimme fight besides maybe Freddy. The reason im saying this is a stupid fight is because i think it IS going to be a rough outting for Cotto.... and he stands to gain nothing but a paycheck, the thing is, cotto will make money fighting whoever, HE is the draw, to take a fight like this for a little extra money imo is dumb,

If he goes out there, outboxes the **** out of Jr, then stops him in the 5th round with a badass body shot..... People will say 'so what', it was Chavez Jr for Gods sakes, the biggest fraud in boxing (their words... not mine)

if he struggles in a close win against him, he will be **** on from here to PR.... (hes already catching **** just on the rumor of him facing such a 'hype job')

If he, God forbid, LOSES this fight? you can scratch him from the elite list and it will be hard getting back....

A fighter like Cotto doesnt need a tough fight against Chavez JR on his legacy.... it would be better to rematch Pac, Margarito, or fight Williams or Mayweather, and lose to them, then lose to JR. I can understand having a gimme fight, there are plenty of those to be had.... IMO, and i hope im very wrong, but Chavez Jr, with Roach and Ariza, at this point in time... is no 'gimme' fight.

    IMO

Uh.... the ONLY reason this fight is HAPPENING, is because of the $$$$$

Forgive some Cotto fans who see no reason Cotto should be fighting a 6ft guy who brings NOTHING to the table legacy wise that will benifit Cotto. Cotto has made his name off of working his way up and fighting everyone out there to fight, hes on the slide and he has chances to still get fights with Mayweather, and other top fighters, that losing to or struggling with JR wont help him achieve.

This fight is against a guy who not only does NOTHING for Cotto legacy wise except hurt him, hes not a mandatory, and even more, hes not even ranked in the weightclass that Cotto fights at (or should i say, not ranked in the top 10 of any division.... period), so ya.... for a fighter in cottos position, its more then a little pointless.

Granted, if Cotto goes out there and thrashes Jr like everyone says he will.... then none of this matters and he moves on to his next fight, but its a risky move IMO.

I think Chavez will do much better than anyone thinks. Roach is making a huge difference.

Julio Ceasar Chavez stopped Roger (The woman beater) two times in two different weight divisions. Chavez was a huge underdog in "both" fights!
