If Cotto were to lift the lineal middleweigh title, that would be incredible...

It really would be. Former 140lb titlist lifting the MW title, the legitimate MW title would be something to really shout about. It would be one of the biggest achievements in boxing in the last decade and it would make Cotto great - agree or disagree?

I know that it's a slim chance that it will actually come about, I make Martinez a very serious favourite, but he is old - and your chances of doing something extraordinary as an athlete should be slim.

Probably a routine win for Maravilla but if it's not...

Sergio will put on a clinic ............

the only hope cotto has is if sergios knee is ****ed........................ even then sergio is the type of guy who would fight past it..............

cotto had no business fighting at 140 anyways he was beating those small guys picking on them.........

anyone who wins the middlweight title of sergio will not hold it long lmao GGG will be after them

That's one reason IMO why it might be nice if Cotto won. He's the type of mad ******* that will fight GGG.

It would be especially great because even though if it happens, everybody will be talking about how old and worn down Martinez was, other lighter-weight greats like Mayweather and Pacquiao (both of whom beat Cotto) have never shown any inclination of moving up to MW and lifting that title. So Cotto is taking a gamble that other fighters around his weight have not been willing to take, and he deserves our undying respect for that.

Most likely but until he proves it, Martinez is the number 1 fighter in the division.

"martinez does not want to face a fighter like golovkin at this stage of his career" - lou di bella (sergio's promoter)

he's already one of this era's greats, and a MW crown at the tail end of his career would be icing on the cake, but I think it's highly unlikely he will beat Sergio

The knee will factor into this fight but it will not be sergio's
