Yes. But when there's an existing titleholder and a fighter wins a title, he is handed the previous title-holder's belt. After the celebration, the winning fighter has to give the belt back and then the commission sends the winning fighter a new belt.

Such as, when Taylor first won against Hopkins, you can tell in the interview that Hopkins' face is on the WBC belt.

A fight I would love to see and one of the last opponents who could provide a marque (of sorts) opponent on which Hatton exit.

However, I don't see it happening as Hatton will fight again only for mega-money and even sadder than that, it will likely have to take place at 147 where he has proven ineffective.

Yes the winner takes it home. It isn't a belt tied to any sanctioning fee, and there is no ability to defend the belt. The "Diamond Belt" is just a recognition by the WBC that this is a damn good fight, and I personally don't have a problem with that because this is one of the best fights in awhile.

the diamond belt is going to be given to the winners of mega fights to keep or sell or use as a doorsop or whatever they want to do with it. Its not a catchweight belt anymore- its the wbcs amazing new idea to make boxing more mainstream again (the geniuses). Basically they gonna give a belt to the winner of any of the top p4pers who fight each other.
How about this for an idea, the wbc sanction fees belt where the winner never has to pay the wbc any sanctioning fees ever again.

Thats a very charitable perspective on the WBC.Im far more cynical than that.
I think Sulamein hates the fact that they have no real involvement in this fight and its the WBO's baby.
They've decided the best way to hijack it is to create a bogus belt so hey presto its for a WBC 'title'
Its little to do with them,...this is just a sanctioning body attention whoring.

It's a trophy. (& A slap in Berto's face as the TRUE WBC champ)
That said, Cotto will take it and hang it on his wall along side his WBO.
