I don't reckon a big promotor would have snapped him up, although he had bags of experience and fights as an amatuer, he didn't win anything amazing as a senior. He probably would have signed with Gilmour of Morrison and maybe have wored his way to a British title shot a couple of years ago.

What promoter would he have gone with ?

(DM)Gilmour, fighting on dinner shows, or Morrison, fighting in the pavilion

Who should he have gone with ?

    (DM)Frank warren

Where is he today or could he be if he was over here, or better still.........came home tomorrow ?

(DM)If McEwan landed back on these shores tomorrow, he would wipe the floor with the domestic opposition, even brit ESB's new favourite son, Darren Barker:D

    (DM)Criminally underrated.

& heres my thoughts on Craig Mcewan here. No-one wants to talk about him here except his loyal scots fans, but by goodness if he loses his next fight hes gonna be the BIG talking point here, make no mistake. I know how ESB brit forum rolls. Theyre all sitting quietly waiting on Craig taking a fall, & then they will all be on top of him like vultures if it happens;)

He would be far less overrated as we'd get to see him more often. Just because he's in a top gym and sparring top fighters doesn't mean he's all that great. And he isn't, if people actually watch him fight you can see he's as slow as molasses.

Well, I give you credit TFFP as you at least have put your neck on the line & predicted Craigs gonna fail, its the silent assasins who wont even talk about him but will have a whole lot to say if he loses that bothers me.

Of course, I happen to take the opposite viewpoint of your good self on this one, I think the guy has a chance of going down as a future scottish boxing great.
Time will tell on who is right, time will tell...

I'm with TFFP here. Being a fellow Scot, I want to like his style. But he has very little power, he struggles to put together decent combinations, and he gets hit too often. He's quite unorthodox, but any elite Middleweight will put him away. I like to picture a prospect in with the main men of the division. Imagine McEwan in there with someone like Arthur Abraham. He would have no chance.

I would go with this, I'm trying to like McEwan every time i see him but he doesn't seem to have the full package of a world champion. Would love to see him prove me wrong but i think he needs a fresh start like Andy Lee is going for. There is obvious flaws in his style but he doesn't seem to be correcting them

Silent assassins  I know where you're coming from...

I'll be rooting for him as much as I would Darren Barker. Any Brit I root for, I'm not onboard the whole English/Scottish thing. Just as much as I hope Burns twats Martinez. Thats my honest opinion on his as a fighter but hopefully he does better than I think. There are a lot of good young middleweights so he has his work cut out I reckon.

A fresh start like Andy Lee???

    For one? hes unbeaten.

For two, he beat the man who beat Andy Lee convincingly.

For three, hes at the wildcard, under the tutelage of the Roaches.

For four, hes sparring with a great fighter like Miranda, who compares him to the second coming of Oscar De La Hoya!

For goodness sake LHL, just what kind of 'fresh start' could top that lot? You tell me... after all I am just some biased jock.

I ain't really bothered to watch the lad that hard. When i have he's looked ragged..sorta like he needs to a test to get him going. Looks good one min then goes sloppy maybe because he finds the level he's at to easy. I do agree with a post in this thread...just because fighters train at great gym don't make them great. Craig's got a lot to prove and hopefully he can do Scotland proud.

As I say TFFP, I respect you making your opinion known early, & it dont bother me if you like him or hate him, honestly. & if you prove me wrong & Craig fails? Thats fair enough.
Its just the fact that Craigs making a name for himself in the states & no-one wants to give him credit & ignores his very existance but his die-hard fans here on this forum that rankles me, but if Craig were to lose his next fight these very same ****s would be all over a defeat for Craig like a rash, & laughing at guys like me who predict great things for him!

You call it as you see it, & I would prefer arguing with a guy like you anyday. Your an old school poster on here though, so you know where I am coming from.

For one unbeaten doesn't mean **** this day and age

For two watch the fight Lee was beating Vera and i don't think it should of been stopped seeing as Lee was throwing back his own shots. McEwan done great against Vera but him and Lee aren't the same fighter so i won't compare styles

For three he's been at Wild card for how long? From the fights i have seen McEwan in he is the same fighter time after time not making massive improvements in any department.

For four sparring doesn't mean a lot either people bang on about how great fighters are because they spar with top class fighters but i don't see it in most of them.

McEwan is a good boxers but lacks pace and power i have seen that from the first time i seen him i thought this would come along as he progressed but it hasn't. He is an intelligent fighter but that will only bring you so far at the minute McEwan looks set in his ways to me and isn't showing much of an improvement.

If you want i can take my Andy Lee comparison back but i think he is going the same way, Lee was set in his ways before the Vera fight didn't know how to fight inside, didn't know how to tie a fighter up. He was shown up for it.

He would probably be at the exact point he is in now in America. On the verge of going to a decent level having competed ok against bums and ok journeymen. Hopefully being in America has made him a better fighter so that when he does step up he has a good chance of making the grade.

He needs to fight better opponents, as a wise person on here said you cant judge a contender until they step into ring with decent opposition.
