Of course D'Amato dies just before Tyson beats Berbick in 86' , but say he lives on how do you suppose this would have affected Tysons career ? This is something that comes up alot when talking about Tyson , that if Cus D'Amato had lived things would have turned out different for Tyson what do you think ?
absolutely, with cus in his corner tyson would not enter in the jail so the would have faced bowe, prime holyfield and he would not lose against the bum buster douglas. he would ko lewis in the early-mid 90s. probably cus would advise tyson to avoid old foreman 89- 90 with the excuse "old man"
i disagree you may be right but i think he would have maintained focus for at least a while i think he would have had the mind set to beat douglas and of course if he stayed out of prison then we can never say because he rapidly when down hill prior to that and lost to holyfield and so on
yeh i dont really like tysons chances against prime holyfield , i think bowe was a fight he would of won and lewis possibly 50/50 on that
D'amato died a full year before Tyson fought Berbick. Anyway, if he had lived ....... you know, D'amato had a reputation and record of over-protecting his fighters. Tyson might have been fighting rematches with Reggie Gross and Mike Jameson after beating Berbick.
You think McVey? Tyson had a lot of respect for Cus and his downfall really started when he died. You could be totally right. Tyson gets frustrated any time his opponent stands up to him and doesn't show fear. By this premise he could have very well fired Cus, especially if the legendary trainer had words to say about Tyson's womanizing. Cus wouldn't take any crap from Tyson but I don't think Mike would have fired him that quickly had he lived.
Cus let Tyson get away with murder, he , Jacobs, and Cayton bought people off. Cus let Tyson help himself to other young fighters dinners,and act the arsehole in general ,because he was so desperate to have one more champion before he died.That's the main reason Atlas took a walk ,because Tyson was getting preferential treatment because of his obvious potential talent. Once Tyson had made it, I think he would have wiped his arse on Cus, and took a hike,as he did on Cayton, Lott and Rooney. Tyson has had enough excuses made for him by apologists over the years. I judge him by the company he sought out and kept, arseholes like King and co.Tyson was a great fighter who could have been even greater,as a man he leaves a lot to be desired ,imo.
Anyone who discounts the influence Damato and the rest of his clan had on Tyson is dead wrong. Its what made Tyson the fighter he was as much as his ability. Tyson would have tried to beat Marciano's record, his team wanted that and would have most likely given him the right fights to get there but it would have been tough. I think he would have continued to improve under Rooney and had some stellar fights against the likes of Holyfield, Lewis and Bowe which could have produced the greatest heavyweight in history with a very difficult legacy to beat. Tyson was coming into a great era before he went to prison with Holy, Lewis and Bowe emerging.
Perhaps, but he didnt have the same relationship with his handlers after D'Amato and Jacobs died. Rooney was an alcoholic gambler going through a lot of his own personal problems in 88 and Cayton was not the warmest guy in the crew. Guys like Lott and Rooney were not capable of steering Tyson clear of King whereas Jacobs and D'Amato were and they were also involved with Tyson more personally. Who knows though, Tyson made A LOT of obvious bad choices in his life and always had that street mentality because of his up bringing.
No way is Mike going to be influenced by a 90 year old man once the fame and everything that comes with it hits top gear, it just isn't happening. Cus never had a grip on Tyson in the first place.
I see 2 scenarios panning out. The more unlikely one, Cus guides Tyson, he has a successful career and cements himself as possibly the GOAT. He had the potential to do this. The likely one, Tyson shows Cus the door just like he did to everyone else. Only now at the age of 45 Tyson has finally grown up and realised the stupid mistakes he made.
