No. He'd also need to control all the promoters and all the managers. Dana White is to MMA the WBAs, Top Ranks and Al Haymons all rolled into one.

 

Promoters need to be eradicated and a governing body in place that controls the sport, the best would fight the best and on a regular basis.

Sadly it will not happen and we will keep getting served up fights like Burns vs Cook instead of meaningful fightts.

 

Dana White needs to stay away from boxing. He pays his champions only about a mil a fight. Most pros would stop boxing if he was in control.

 

Dana white is a cancer to the sport of MMA. He don't give the fights the fans want to see! Fedor and Randy wanted to fight, and they wanted to Co-promote just like they do in boxing all the time, and this ***** Dana denied the fight and said fedor must sign with the UFC first and then he can fight. Then when Fedor told him to go **** him self, he went on a rampage saying Fedor is a can, Fedor is not a top heavyweight and even saying that fedor is not the greatest fighter of all time.

I think DW basically bought the UFC out of bankruptcy from the Gracies for about 100K. It's worth a few billion now, but it still about 10 trillion short to buy out all 5 of the major sanctioning bodies.

 

You just put forward the one reason why boxing is going down hill. The amount of money if generates.

If Boxing had one sanctioning body for everything it would be far more sucsesfull just like it was back in the day.

I have not read all of the posts for this thread, but i can imagine that the majoirty are MMA hating posts saying Dana and MMA is shite.

Let me tell you somthing... What Dana has done is create a very stong platform by controlling everything.

And the way MMA fans dont crush a fighter after a loss actually helps the game. We could learn from this. Fighters get respect even after a loss.

If boxing had the same approach (which is impossible to do at this stage IMO) it would be so much more exciting and boxers would do more to take challenges, not just go where the biggest paycheck is for the least effort.

 

I don't think it's fair to expect Dana to pay UFC/WEC fighters close to or the same amount as boxers do (w/c is no less than a mil). Boxing has been here for decades whilst MMA's just over a decade (or 2).

Consider the fan-base; fan-base = money/revenue. Not much compared to boxing.
Consider the [number of] sponsors (and how much they are only willing to pay). Again, not much compared to boxing.
Bottomline: Not much money to go around (to distribute/give amongst MMA fighters) compared to boxing.

So where do I stand in this? I agree that MMA fighters ought to be paid more than they currently are BUT I can't agree with you for expecting Dana/UFC to pay them the same rates as what these well-known boxers currently do (w/c is by the million/s), it's just [financially] difficult, if not unattainable... well, for now, maybe but in the future, who knows?

About Fedor. I agree with you to an extent that I think that Dana was simply being selfish for trying to force Fedor to sign up to UFC (thus making Dana/UFC virtually own him) just for him to fight in the octagon.

As for A. Silva vs GSP? Dude, last time I checked Silva hasn't been fighting in WW (where GSP's fighting at), since he entered UFC. Catchweight fight? I don't know. Do they have that in UFC?

 

This is something along the lines that i thoght would be the typical response.

In MMA the best do fight the best, generally, and if you watch a UFC event you get well matched opponents which at the least is a must in the sport.

If you dont watch or as the thread started wrote dont like the sport i beg you to watch the event UFC 134. This is in a nutshell why UFC gains more and more fans. It was a great event with every fight up to the main event and including the main event being being a good or great one. I cant remember when the last boxing card (entire card) had such a good amount of decent fights in it.


You also mentioned one fight, but anyone who knows anything know this is down to the weight issue. And last time i heard GSP and Silva had not retired, so you cant make out like its not a possibility for the future...Its just a similar scenario to why Floyd or Pac might not fight Martinez.
