If Jacobs beats a 168 pound champion to win a title (doesn't pick up a vacant strap) is he a HOF'er?

    I think so.

Why not? He's fought far tougher competition than Loma or Crawford and the whole forum wants to blow smoke up their asses like they knocked out Roberto Duran, Ray Robinson and Manny Pacquiao on the same night.

Nah he has lots to do.

I mean his resume is pretty weak considering his talent.

    Derevyanchenko
    Quillin
    Chavez Jnr
    Selucki
    Truax
    Mora x2

Its not terrible but its just several fringe contenders in the real world. He needs a couple of grade A wins.

He took GGG to the brink. Same with Canelo. And he'd never get that decision anyways.

Many fighters have took great fighters to the brink and not made the HOF.

Most will have a key standout win. Jacobs doesnt.

I mean he could get in based on the bottom level of Gatti & McGuigan but he isnt as famous or historic as them so doubt it.

Guys like Nigel Benn and Ernesto Marcel aint made it and they are miles ahead of Jacobs.

You really think if Marquez doesn't KO Pac in the 4th fight (by the way Pac was already big on the slide by then) then he doesn't make the HOF? He never actually beat Pac until then. So wouldn't have any standout wins either since Barrera was way past it too.

Marquez had beaten Barrera, Casamayor, Diaz x2 , Salido, Peden, Madina, Katsidis, Gainer, Juaez and was a three weight world champion by then, he wasalso ranked the out and out number 1 at both SFW and LW. He was miles ahead of Jacobs even if he never beat Pacquaio.

Barrera was still an elite fighter when he fought Marquez, had only lost to Pacquiao and Morales during his peak run at that point.

    Terrible comparison.

If he cleans out SMW and convincingly beats all of the current belt holders, maybe. If he beats someone on the cards and fights a bunch of scrubs, forget it. I’m a big fan but he came up short against his top opponents at MW. Fought well but didn’t get the W’s. Hope he can do it because he’s a good dude but I don’t see it happening.

Marquez was a 3 division champion with defenses two of which he was the man in the division. Danny Jacobs won a vacant belt and never made 1 successful defense. His best win is over Sergiy which is a good win then there’s Quillin which is solid but nothing else after besides a close loss to GGG..

Oh, so you don´t actually believe Jacobs should be in HOF?

It´s like the whole Gatti thing. "Well Gatti is in the HOF, so why not fighter x?" It´s as one dimensional of an argument as it gets.

Man that one always get me heated. I had a debate with someone about Antonio Tarver not deserving to be in the HOF and he used the Gatti excuse. Tarver best RJJ then immediately lost to Glen Johnson. Then beat Glenn Johnson and RJJ and lost to Hopkins. No sustained level of greatness or anything. Yeah but he beat RJJ, well by that logic Buster Douglass and Andy Ruiz are HOFers..
