If Dawson could man up and move down in weight, why can't Alvarez?

Yeah, but I am curious as to how that would affect Canelo negatively still. Dude weighed 172 fight night. Say a 163 pound rehydration limit would still put him 9 pounds short of his "ideal comfort zone." For the record though, Ortiz weighed in 164 on fight night (freakin huge). I don't like the idea of a rehydration clause to be honest. Too many health factors and/or risks; more than a contemporary era fight without rehydration clauses would bring.

I say he fights him at 154 straight up or he doesn't at all. Kind of like Oscar and Cotto, those fights were essentially "bonuses" with Floyd stacking the deck slightly out of his favor with weight to garner more money, attention, resume-boost, etc.

First, Mayweather has never fought a jr middle. Oscar wasn't a jr middle nor was Cotto.

Second, if Canelo is gonna call out a welterweight then he should go fight there.

What did Oscar and Cotto each way in at for their fights with Mayweather?

    Was it 147 or under?

Because if it was above 147 and below 154, than it was a junior middleweight fight.

And what did Oscar and Cotto weigh in the fight prior to facing Mayweather?

This is the first that i heard of Alvarez - Ward/any LHW.

And how excactly is Alvarez a joke ? he just beat (in some eyes) the best Jr. Middleweight. Someone his prompters did not him to share a ring with.
And even if you had him losing it was by all means a close fights and a really good boxing match. Alvarez is only 22 and is higly skilled.
You are the one who is a joke.

    Let's not play dumb.

Oscar began his career @ 130 and Cotto began his career @ 140. Neither of those guys were walking into the ring on fight night @ 172 lbs.

    Lol.

Yes, and he needed the help of his promoter and the sanctioning mobs in order to do it...

Well if Mayweather and his *****'s want to claim that he's the best light middle weight in the world (which he has clearly never been) then yeah.

It's not called the light middleweight division for people who began their careers at 130-140, it's the light middleweight division. If Mayweather wants to claim he's the best at 147-154 (which he has never been able to prove) then he has to fight the best.

While I will agree if I had to guess I'd say neither entered above 172 pounds, but I expect they weren't too short of reaching that mark. And no one really knows for sure anyway.

Plus, lets not play dumb and pretend Mayweather didn't begin his career @ 130 as well.

How does one prove they're the best in a division then?

Because it was pretty con-****ing-crete that he was the top WW when he beat Hatton at the end of '07.

And it's pretty concrete that he's the best WW in the world now (unless the inactivity of more than one year w/o fighting in the division disqualifies him from your POV, which is totally legit but the only way around that).

Cotto has fought in 5 consecutive fights that he weighed in at 154 or a pound less.
:rofl:rofl:rofl Is he not a Jr.Middleweight ? Did he not hold the WBA belt at the weight ? What the hell do you call him ?

"a blown up junior welterweight shot to bits cherry pick nobody not at his ideal weight class and not worthy of being considered a good win"

Seriously though weights and fight night weights and divisions are some of the least understood and highly dramatized aspects of boxing on this site recently. I hate it; it's annoying... It's so straightforward too. I just don't get some people.

Mayweather a natural welterweight, not a small one.
Mayweather is a 154 champ, proclaims himself the best of that division. If you're the best, fight the best. If you're not admit you think you're too small for the division and vacate your belt.

If he doesn't do that, he's ducking, pure and simple! Pacquiao and Martinez are 2 fighters who have gone in against guys almost 20lb heavier, stop making excuses.

Floyd should either vacate and say 154 is too big for him and he's staying at 147 or he's ducking
