As much as I like Pavlik, I can't see him beating a World class boxer like Oscar.
(If De la Hoya decides Pavlik ain't gonna hit him, Even a pudgy DLH ain't gonna stand there for KP)

Pavlik would have beat him up something bad.

He didn't deal particularly well with Sturm's jab, and while it is technically better than Pavlik's, Pavlik has very long arms and is tall. He's a huge middleweight, and Oscar just didn't compete very well at 160.

If he comes in the same shapoe he did Pavlik beats him. My guess is that he wouldn't take pavlik as lightly as he did Sturm though and would come in good enough shape to win the decision.

Stylistically, I think Pavlik poses a big problem for Oscar. He's tall, rangy and better with his jab; without his jab, DLH doesn't function well. Plus, Pavlik is much bigger and stronger, and would back DLH up pretty easily. I don't think DLH could simply "box and move" against Pavlik, either; you have to gain his respect from the outside and then tie him up. That ain't gonna happen. Pavlik wears him down and stops him late.

I'm one of the few guys on this board who is a huge ODLH fan. Pavlik will never come close to Oscar's accomplishements, but sorry guys, this is an epic mismatch. Oscar's choices would be either lose a decision because he ran all night, or try to win and get BRUTALLY knocked out. Oscar just does not have the size, strength, or pop to keep the beast at bay.

DLH said so himself, 160 is too much weight for him. He can't do it.

Delahoya look like **** in that fight and got a gift decision. If that version of delahoya fought pavlik today then pavlik knocks him out cold.

I think a well trained DLH back in the day could have done the same to Pavlik as B-Hop did !

i agree:good he tried fighting with bernard and paid the price. hell, he tried the first few rounds outboxing bernard and it worked well (i don't care, from a pure talent standpoint, oscar has more skills and tools than hopkins) but eventually bernard walked him down.

pavlik would have nothing to fear in terms of oscar's power or punch at 160 and though DLH would have moments and flurries, it would look more like the LAST 4 rounds of Hagler/Leonard than the FIRST 4

De La Hoya was competitive for 9 rounds (and outboxing in the opinion of some) against Bernard Hopkins. He would outbox Pavlik imo.

i agree he did well but by the 6th, bernard was walking him down. a younger, fresher pavlik with admittedly not the same ring iq but certainly a fantastic pressure fighter would start even earlier and begin catching oscar quite early

i'm a huge oscar fan but i can tell his limits. 154 was the absolute top for him
