Before he faught Truax he was talking about wanting to fight benavidez. On his last performance you can see him beating Uzcategui or benavidez really.
Obviously the guy was super talented and I always thought he got a rough deal from the U.K. pundits. However like you mentioned, he still makes the same mistakes that have plagued his career, spends too much time on the ropes. He seems to lose interest in fights and tries to cruise through. Kell Brook used to do the same things earlier in his pro career but Kell learnt. Degale never has. I thought he beat Groves, was one of his better showings. I think Groves would school him in a rematch. One things for sure, he may be more talented than groves but if he had experienced the same setbacks that George has, Degale would be a distant memory by now where as Groves is thriving.
Plant was fiending for that fight afterwards lol. There’s an interview with Fighthype after the weigh-in where Plant said he’d pay Uzcategui step aside money and forfeit his purse to DeGale (or Truax if he wins). Probably a bit of bravado but hey that **** sells nowadays lol
I agree thought he won the Groves fight and he has been in some entertaining fights but they were entertaining simply because he slacked off i.e. resting on the ropes, going for a walk not sure he can fight for 12 rounds at a pace. Hope he wins tonight to set up some big fights back here with the winner of the super series or Eubank
I can see that happening. It's a fight that makes sense and both fighters seem willing to fight anyone in the division.
interim champ I believe is often deemed as a title win and gets first shot at full champ. I think if full champ doesnt fulfill obligation of facing them, I think they get stripped and interim becomes full champ. Often interims I believe have had claim to a title or ended up becoming champ
I think degale has had a tough career for less than 30 fights and is faded, but as the man said, he has had a good career and been a road warrior. I would like James to retire now. Degale has always cut and marked up badly. Degales style I think is tough on himself. With it, he is always having to move alot more than his opponents which I think tires him out. He is often working twice as hard whilst his opponents just turn their body, Degale has done a full circle around them. I think he gets tired and tends to rest on the ropes when that happens and cant evade the punches. Only my opinion but not sure if its something his corner sees? Consider Degale won his world title away and was a world champ in only his 22nd fight and his first defence was away to Bute. Other SMW champs at present didnt win a world title until - Ramirez 34 fights and Groves 29 fights though I thought groves looked to have beaten Jack. Benavidez has a SMW title in less fights than Degale but wasnt fighting at the same level as Dirrell, Bute etc IMO
