If Deontay Wilder were to Beat AJ? Would you...

If he was ahead before the end or at the end that would be impressive but if he`s a mile behind on points then catches AJ while he gets sloppy that would be less impressive, I feel if he beat him twice that would be the mark of a great fighter, like Robinson beat LaMotta four times only losing one of their famous clashes, that`s dominance, one thing though AJ isn`t as good as a great like LaMotta yet and certainly doesn`t have a heavyweight version of his chin, Ali beat Frazier twice also so there`s a heavyweight comparison, I don`t feel Wilder is as good as AJ but Joshua has looked shaky under fire twice, if Wilder does beat AJ it would probably mean he has stepped up his game.

 

AJ has better footwork, he uses economical movement to get in an out, Wilder is more predictable and just throws 1-2`s compared to AJ` better quality combo`s, Joshua uses a slight half-step back to evade punches that`s why he doesn`t move his head as much. I hope your not comparing AJ to that other British flop Bruno! Both these guys would knock Frank out in his prime.

 

You should never lunge and Wilder has a habit of throwing wild haymakers AJ is a good counter puncher and would catch the off balance Wilder with one of his big shots.

 

Lunge is probably the wrong choice of word, because that makes him seem clumsy when he's anything but. More of a controlled thrust forward with the jab is what i meant. This skillful technique which he possesses will be all thats required for rapidly closing down the distance between him and AJ, so he can unleash the right hand which shall cause the early stoppage. Wilder TKO sub round 6!

 

Wilder would obviously get crazy respect for beating Joshua, and would be the best heavyweight in the division.

I doubt Wilder has the skill to land any solid blows on Joshua though, and expect Wilder to receive a one sided beat down when the fight happens.

 

I suppose he’s already classed as “great” in this era. Would it legitimise his boxing ability is the question and would people stop mocking his resume?

The one fight would certainly give him more respect. Personally I don’t see the fight telling us anything new: I reckon it goes one of two ways. Joshua dominates it and knocks Wilder out, or Joshua dominates it, but gets knocked out. Either way, it tells us that AJ is the better boxer, but Wilder carries one punch power.

 

I'd be happy if wilder made it possible to fight aj. But it's not going to happen next year

Wilder sets up the right very well but that`s all he does, Joshua has more variety and opens people up better, Wilder has a tendency to go wild when he has someone in trouble whereas AJ is more cool and controlled when finishing, look at when Joshua finished Wlad he was using the combo he worked on in training, I saw a Barry Robinson vid showing this, he also showed Wilder has bad training habits.

 

Why is classed as a great in this era?!

People talk about Joshua being chinny but he’s taken thunderous shots from two renown KO specialists and recovered from both to go on and win. Everyone trots out the mantra that this is the heavyweights anyone can KO anyone if they land the right shot yet when AJ gets hit by a bomb from Klitschko and gets up to win they call him suspect. Muhammad Ali had one of the best chins ever yet he was knocked down by Cooper and looked in worse shape afterwards than Joshua did.

I think Joshua showed that if his opponent has the quality to get through and land a shot on him and if that opponent has the power to trouble him then he (AJ) can take it and still go the distance while retaining his own power. Also there’s the added benefit of understanding what it feels like to get hit and come through, it’s an experience that would stand him in good stead if it were to happen again.

Wilders been wobbled by rangefinder jabs from journeymen such as Gerald Washington so for me, the big question mark on chins is over Wilder not Joshua.

 

10/10 commment agree to that. I don't think Wilder will be able hold up to Joshua's power long.
