If Dirrell performs as well as he did against Abraham, he's beating Ward...

If Dirrel fights they way he did for most of the AA fight he will beat ward. I dont think Ward has been tested yet, but i expect Dirrel to really give him a stern test.

Dirrel may of lost to Froch, but I think he learnt a hell of a lot about his game that night.

Like SWARMER said,,, Dirrell is the most physically gifted of the lot... but Ward is head and shoulders above him in terms of focus and mental toughness.

I'm leaning slightly toward Ward at this point... tough pick though =still undecided.

    * btw, is the fight actually happening or wha??? when and where?

Dirrell will give Ward a test. Ward has looked great against the skill challenged Miranda, and the plodding, telegraphing Froch, but he'll have his problems timing the unpredictable Dirrell.
Dirrell is much more skilled than he gets credit for , and he'll prove it against Ward.
This fight will say a lot about Ward too. He looks like the best thing since sliced bread right now , but we've never seen him against someone with the style of Dirrell at the top level.

I take it you meant Kessler, not Froch. Other than that - good post. Before I acclaim Ward a future p4p elite fighter, I want to see him against more styles. Just like you say; Miranda has power and not more than that. Like Kessler and Green, he cannot fight backwards or on the inside. With Dirrell, Ward will experience speed, range, reflexes and counter-punching far above the level he's faced up until now. And incidentally, of all the fighters in the supers six, only Froch could claim to have a at least a mediocre inside game. And his really IS below average, too...

It's the same with Alexander; his offence looked very good against fighters with defensive problems but looked very mediocre against a solid shell guard. I think that's what separates a good/very good fighter from a great fighter - the ability to take on all styles. Pac, Mayweather, Hopkins and Calzaghe have proved efficient against all styles at the highest level. It remains to be seen if Ward can handle more styles than straight-ahead power-punchers. Let's see him against elite versions of an inside fighter, a true one-punch KO artist (Not Miranda - I said elite...), speedster, cautious defensive specialist, cheating spoiler, provocative brawler or pitter-pat runner.

We will also have to see how he deals without his hometown advantage, which plays a big part in boxing. What happens if a referee doesn't tolerate his sometimes slight excessive clinching? And how is his chin, really? He hasn't really been hit with a lot of clean shots. If someone can stand up to his biggest flaw - below average power - and has the skills to find Ward... How will Ward deal with that?

I'm not saying he can't, just that we should wait and see. Let him prove himself.

I dont like dirrell either but thats the risk you take when you hit an opponent when they are down.

I thought he was acting as well but abraham is the one who opened the door to be disqualified, and dirrell walked through it.

Another poster from Quebec (thon) just read this from today's Dan Rafael's chat.
When will the Ward-Dirrell fight postponed?

"I don't know but I do know it's not happening Sept. 25. From what I am told by good sources both camps are trying to get out of the fight and Showtime is threatening legal action because if the fight does not come off, the tournament goes down the drain."

I can completely get behind this.
Abraham isn't a very active fighter for the first half of a fight. He puts up his guard and invites you to use him as a heavy bag until you wear down. Everyone looks good against Abraham for the first six rounds.

I hope I'm wrong but I see Ward - Dirrell as a borefest. Both guys will show each other a lot of respect and there will be little action to speak of.

It will be a close, controversial decision either way.

This fight is really hard to predict accurately. I think Dirrell certainly has the capabilities to pull off the upset but he has some big question marks mentally. Meanwhile Ward has by far the best mindset out of the Super Six fighters and is easily the smartest. His intelligence coupled with his all around polished skill set is going to make it a very stern test for Dirrell. Dirrell could shock the world on this one for sure though. I'm pulling for Dirrell more than Ward because I like his style more and I think he's far more exciting to watch, but I wouldn't be disappointed if Ward won at all because I like him a lot as well.

Either way the winner of this fight wins the Super Six.

    I agree

Dirrell has to keep the fight on the outside and not give Ward the opportunity to hold and make it an inside fight. Dirrell's speed is far superior that Ward's.

how you get hit with three big hay-makers in a row and just stand their?

In my humble opinion neither deserve to be champions.
