of course.... he had a shot of doing it... he was doing well untill that body shot.... but i still put him up there among the best
He wasn't doing well as much as it was Hopkins just taking his time and letting DLH stay somewhat busy. He decided to push the gas in the 9th round and coincidentally, that's when he KOed DLH.
Are you serious about this threat? If ODH ever fights Hopkins again (which is never), at the time of the fight Hopkins will be like 48 years old and he'll still be KO'ing Oscar de la Hoya, sorry! I know that is not what you wanted to read.
no i meant in the first and only fight. the 's' in the threrad title was a typo. and im honestly a much bigger hopkins fan than de la hoya fan, just wanted to get input.
he was doing good... hopkins even said right after the fight he gave him lots of problems ... he said he had proablems dealin with DLH speed an that he was standing toe 2 toe which he was suprised for an did not expect... but DLH still lost but a good effort
top 10 p4p??all time or at that moment? if he won he would've been top 5 p4p at the time then top 20 ATG
all time. i think the case can be made and im not much of a delahoya fan. oh and symphony, big ups to canarsie, my old stopmping grounds.
Sorry my mistake tooatsch Now, about the answer to your question, ODH is a very good all around boxer, but because we are talking about Bernard (the living legend) I'll say maybe yes.
Yes, of course, but you got to give the guy credit for trying. However, anyone watching the Sturm fight and seeing Oscar's condition knew how the next fight would turn out. He came out in better shape but the liver shot stopped him cold, actually, Hopkins was already started to take him apart with his pressure tactic. He is still ione of the greats to me, a reckless great, but that is why I like the guy. He could of played it safe but didn't. Even his losses were good performances.
If De La Hoya had defeated Hopkins in 2004, he would have gone straight to #1 P4P and made a case for top twenty or top ten ATG. It was a game effort from De La Hoya - but Hopkins stopped him cold.
oscar will never be among the all time greats, he lost to to many better fighters in his career. He is the biggest attraction but not and all time great, him beating hopkins is just silly.
He takes on the best out there but usually comes up short in biggest fights, but everyone including me likes him for daring to be great unlike floyd
