If Donaire can't get a fight with Mares then why not John?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by BobTheBuilder, Jan 22, 2013.

  1. There are promotional differences stopping Donaire from landing a fight with Mares and Mares said he's moving up to featherweight after his next fight anyway (likely to be against Victor Terrazs.

That leaves him pretty much nobody who deserves a fight with him left at Super Bantamweight (and no Rigondeaux fans beating a couple of C-Level fighters and struggling like **** to an SD over Ricardo Cordoba, a year removed from when he got stopped by Bernard Dunne doesn't earn you a fight with the top guy in the division).

So why not move upto Featherweight himself and look for a fight with long reigning WBA king Chris John?

Some of you are going to say John want's to fight in his own back yard, but so what? Why doesn't Donaire travel to Indonesia? Or it could be held in the Philippines? John has also fought in Japan, Singapore and Australasia recently as well as the US so he not quite the stay at home fighter some of you claim just because he doesn't have all his fights in the US.

Top Rank have been looking to stage events in the Asian areas- http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-may-headline-a-filipino-boxing-card-in-april

John commands a rabid fanbase and will likely be billed in Asia as the Fillipino successor to Pacquiao?

Between the Asian TV deals, international PPV buys and live gate Donaire will have easily his first multi-million pound pay day.

A win would also net him a belt in another weight class, increase his fan base in his home continent and would mean a lot more to his legacy than beating Darchinyan again or unproven Rigondeaux

    Thoughts? :think

Beating Chris John at FW would be a much better win than one over Rigondeaux at 122.

No it wouldn't. The Rigo hype is massive.

  6. Because Rigondeaux has proved ****.

John has beaten the guy in your avi.

Dominate undefeated champ for last ten years, with a win over Marquez, a weight class up >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than a guy who's best win is an SD over Cordoba, in a fight he got floored with a jab, and about 3 more victories over C/D level fighters.

    Don't you think? :think

  7. I guarantee you when Donaire exposes Rigondeaux people will play it down saying he only had a handful of fights and hadn't proven anything against elite oppostion.

  8. :deal

Donaire is the Froch to Rigondeaux's Bute

    Exactly...

Hype and reality are two different things.

Rigondeaux is one of the two best fights at 122, along with Mares. However, jumping up to FW and beating the undefeated, longest reigning titlist in boxing would be more impressive. Just my opinion.

John is a long time hypee fighter that won no more than 3 rounds against Marquez. Joke of a champion I hope Nonito beats that fraud salamander. Dragon my ass.

  12. Wrong son. You clearly haven't watched the Marquez- John fight. In fact this is the report from boxrec on it-

The first third of the fight contained four extremely close rounds. John started to assert himself as the boxer while Marquez repeatedly tried to slash into John's guard with heavy punches. John also landed his share of telling blows throughout these rounds and seemed to be the quicker of the two fighters.
With the start of round five, Marquez appeared to land the heavier punches as John became less active in the bout. This trend continued into round ten, where Marquez was deducted a point for repeated low blows against John. In round eleven, John appeared to pick up the tempo. This round led to another point deduction against Marquez which sealed a 10-8 round for John. As the bout came to a close in round twelve, it was clear John was the fresher of the two fighters. The twelfth was a close round, but a round won by John.
The only western journalist to attend the bout, Scott Mallon of Ring Magazine and The Sweet Science, scored the bout 116-110 in favor of John. His report and those of the Asian journalists in attendance suggested the bout was a just decision.

fighting John would be great. But I doubt John goes anywhere near Donaire.
