It was origionally a TKO win for Tucker for which he won the vacant IBF Heavyweight title buy hypothetically had Douglas won he probably would have attempted a unification with Tyson. How do you see this fight going?
An interesting scenario. But Tyson had his eye on the ball a lot more in '87, while Douglas's main motivation for winning was still up and walking about (sorry if that's a bit distasteful). '87 I think is a bit too early, I think Tyson does stop him at that time, yeah. I'd give Douglas a good chance against '89 Tyson too but not the '87 version.
I made basically the same thread recently: "Iron" Mike Tyson vs. James "Buster" Douglas - 1987 http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227815 Currently the votes are: 81.82% (27) for Tyson and 18.18% (6) for Douglas.
I have the fight on tape. I was so pissed at Buster for dickin' off and losing that fight to Tony back in '87. Buster was kickin' ass until he ran outta gas and faded in round 8 before getting stopped somewhere in the 9th or 10th stanza on his feet...... Heartbreaker.........:rofl MR.BILL:hat
The loss to Tucker served Douglas's interests, because he wasnt ready for Tyson mentaly and Tyson wasnt ready to be taken.
in the final of the unification series.. the occasion would have got to James and Mike would have demolished Buster in 3.... Douglas not nearly as physically or mentally prepaired for Tyson at that time.. TNT's stoppage was proof in that.. He had quit written right through him like a stick of rock.......
