How would that affect his standing alltime in your opinion?

I think one of his top wins that would cement his legacy even more but I cant say I would bump him up any further in my list..He is pretty high as it is on my list anyway.

Agreed almost completely. When you're as accomplished and highly thought of as Duran you'd truly need something special to bump you up even further... Something like 2x wins over the likes of Leonard or some such.

Might slight affect his standing, not by much though.

Excellent win, but lets be honest. Who would have expected him to lose? As excellent as Cervantes is Duran is a whole other planet.

As people have already said, it would just cement his place rather than push him up any further.

I think it would throw him in the mix for a top 140 lbs atg because of Cervantes' greatness but in terms of his atg ranking the effect wouldn't be as big.

A win to solidify his greatness, basically confirm what we already know.

Actually this bout was touted, if anyone wants I could quote exactly from Giudice's book.

Cervantes gets Duran to four titles first, but it only strengthens his position, as others have said. To seriously challenge the likes of Greb or Robby, he'd have needed to unify against Hearns at 147 after Montreal (which I believe he would have successfully achieved in 1980), and dethrone Hagler.

    Would be interested :good

I think Duran could have done with more depth like a Buchanan rematch, Escalera, Arguello, Benitez (at 140/147), and Cervantes. Not calling them ducks but its pity much of his prime was wasted

Yeah I seem to remember reading about that in Giudice's book, I might have to re-read it unless you post it and beat me too it!

I mean, Cervantes was a great win for anybody. So, if Duran had fought and beat him, it would of made Duran that much better, which is considerable.

I just posted a Duran vs. Cervantes poll... 1973-1975, you all should go vote. Thanks

Yes, a win over Cervantes is a big deal... especially if it had happened anywhere from '73-'75, give or take a year or two.
