If Duran had remained at welter:

At 5'7" , a 66" reach, Duran was physically outmatched when he
    moved up......especially the MW area.

Should he have just stayed at WW, run off bunch of title defenses, then done the obligatory attempt at the legit SWW & MW titles as many WW greats in the past did?

How could he run off a string of defenses - he had lost the title to Leonard.

If he had stayed at Welter, he still would have to have built back up after ruining his reputation via the quit job against Leonard.

Perhaps he could have gotten a shot at Hearns, but probably would have lost, although maybe not as badly as at 154 lbs.

I doubt Leonard would have given him a 3rd fight before 1982

Perhaps Duran could have beaten the less experienced Curry and McCrory for one of the vacant titles.

He was actually lucky to get a shot at a defensively weak, inexperienced champion like Davey Moore.

How lucky was it seen in the build up of the fight?

I don't believe he had the self discipline to have remained at 147.

By all standards Roberto Duran's welterweight record ( though short ) was very good. I believe he was something like 8-1 in that division and recorded excellent wins over Ray Leonard and Carlos Palamino. These performances should no doubt give him a reasonable chance against most all time great welters in head to head fights.. Assuming he was capable of making the weight for a bit longer, he certainly could have remained there as a top contender for a while until Leonard relinquished his belts and probably won a title again. From that point fourth he'd likely reign until he was either no longer capable of making weight or until someone like Donald Curry out pointed him circa 1984 when Duran would have been past it..

I think it might have been better if you had stopped to digest your observations, and the ramifications of them.

Due to the stats above anything, and everything Duran achieved above 135 is phenomenal. Particularly the beating of the overwhelming favourite 5' 10" Leonard with the 74" reach when it actually mattered in Montreal.:yep

He probably could have got a shot at Thomas Hearns at WW in 1981.

Seems like when Leonard uses his big physical advantages in Fight #2, Duran quits...as in "quits".

Leonard expertly used gamesmanship pushing for the match when he knew Duran could not be prepared.

Does it still keep you awake at night 36 years later, the fact that little " old " Roberto beat the " prime " all Murican hero?

    LMFAO.

    You fool. :roll::roll:

Did Leonard suddenly grow between June and November 1980, and put on 20lbs?

Leonard had all the " physical advantages " in Montreal too. And in case he was too stupid to realise that fact, his big mouthed idiot trainer kept telling everyone in the build up to the fight that he had the size, power, blah, blah, fukking blah, to win the fight easily.

You Leonard fanboys really do like to shoot yourselves in the foot, don't you?:rofl:rofl:rofl
