Can't blame anyone but Evander! Sure the governing bodies should step in at some point but somewhere else Evander would get a fight.

Maybe... but the sanctioning bodies that are looked up to should set an example

Not sure... but even if they did Big George had not been in as many wars as Holyfield and neither had he had all the health problems of Evander.

And he didn't fight to the same age as Evander is!!

He doesn't suffer from any mental health issues?
He's capable of making his own decisions?
    What is he anyway 47?
3years older than George was when he won the world title.
Look at Hopkins 45 and trying to land a fight with Gaye.

My opinion is he's smart enough and old enough to make his own decisions. But I would like him to retire.

I agree...but with all the different governing bodies and sanctions who are about money would not always look out for the best interst of hte fighter. But yea.....ethically you're absolutely right. It's the job of the commission to protect fighters who need protecting.

He only has himself to blame to be totally honest with you! Hate to say it but he should have made better life decisions.

I would blame god and jesus for not telling him to stop and "giving him the will" to keep fighting on. ....on his holy mission

Let him fight, let him die. Hes a man, it's his choice how he wants to die. If he wants to die in the ring I don't think we should stop him, but he needs to give interviews and explain why he chooses to continue fighting into advanced age to prove hes competent and sane, and to show hes making a conscious decision to risk his life for the sport, his legacy, or whatever he is fighting for.

I don't think it's right to tell him he cannot fight anymore. It's right to not pay to see it, it's right to not support his decision, but it's his life, his body, his death, he does have the right to die for his legacy if he and his family accept his decision.

jk it would be Evander's fault for still fighting. He's a grown man I'm pretty sure he knows consequences.

Only it doesn't protect the fighters. It's one thing if a fighter has enough money, this fighter can be forced to retire and nobody can say it's unethical. This is good for boxing and good for the fighters self interest. In Holyfields case he might be completely broke, he has something like 10 kids and is paying to put them all through college, he also has to pay to keep himself alive, and he only is good at one thing in life, thats fighting. So are we supposed to ask a man to stop doing the only thing he knows how to do to survive and make money?

Unless you are prepared to offer him millions of dollars to quit fighting, you cannot blame him if he continues fighting. Especially if hes still winning and might actually be able to win a title in such a weak division, he beat Valuev, and he has a genuine chance at beating the inexperienced but talented Haye.

Even if he loses he still makes millions of dollars because hes Holyfield. If hes your hero you have to put his emotions and the emotions of his family before yours. You want him to quit because you don't want to see him get hurt, but if hes willing to die for his family in my opinion he has the right to do it.

Wait a second! Not long ago he beat Valuev clearly!!! and got robbed. The same guy Haye claimed a close decision against. AND! In his last fight he knocked bout Botha! Id say for 47 hes doing quite well!

I hope it gets to a point were opponents refuse to step in the ring with him. However, this will not happen...Holyfield is still a name so every contender will be chasing to have his name on their resume. At least the top guys in the division could refuse to fight him.
