If every fighter fought like Rigo or Lara, would anyone watch boxing?

I would say, no, they wouldn't.

Outside of guys that have absolutely no athleticism, bad trainers, and a non-existent strength and conditioning program, who could potentially get stopped, almost every fight could go the other way, and nobody would watch boxing.

When you have two guys that don't want to engage, there is no entertainment value. Don't get me wrong, it's understandable from the perspective of the guy that doesn't want to take risks, because he may end up getting hurt.

But unfortunately, that's the risks that you have to pay if you want to be a superstar. Nobody gets paid for taking no risks. You can do all the marketing and promoting that you want, but unless the fighter takes risks, he will not get the return he desires.

Floyd was an anomaly because he didn't take risks in the ring, but he took risks with his soul through his behavior. He made people hate him through his actions, and that's certainly a way to make money, but that won't work for every fighter.

People will inevitably get tired of that same act, as fight after fight ends in fans wondering why they decided to watch the fight. In a way, Floyd seriously hurt the earning potential of future fighters as people were turned off by his performances and gravitate towards other sports and away from boxing.

Anyway, my point is, you get paid based on your risk premium. The more risk you take, the more money you take in. That's the way the world works.

Rigo is a low beta fighter. Nobody wants to see him fight because he doesn't take risks. Lara's performance was terrible against Canelo. Nobody even remembers it.

Imagine if Lara would have "won." Would anyone want to see him fight again? Can you imagine Lara headlining a PPV?

It takes two guys to make a fight. If you don't want to fight, don't box. It's not the sport for you. There are a lot of other jobs a person can do.

GGG is an example of a fighter who's career has been damaged by Floyd.

Most casual fans have never heard of him. If casual fans knew who he was, there would be more demand for guys like Canelo to fight him.

Floyd made a fortune fighting like that. Although I don't know if Rigo or Lara is roiding themselves to teeth, so they might actually be deserving more praise.

That's the beauty of boxing and sports in general; you have people with different styles and love them or hate them, it is the opponents job to overcome these different styles.

As for the becoming a superstar part - i think Lara and Rigo know they don't have the style to become PPV stars and i don't think they particularly care. They fight the way they fight, get booed and keep fighting in the same way. I think that they care more about winning than becoming stars.

A few years ago Barcelona were playing the best football the game had ever seen. Every time they played it was a feast of skills and sheer dominance. Now I dare say if every team played that way then football would have became very boring. The point is every other team/fighter can't produce that level of skill so those who can should be celebrated rather than criticised.

No. And after a bit the sport would die through lack of money and TV fees being generated and nobody was actually participate in it

It'd be reduced to something like shuffle board played by old ass ppl on vacation, even though its an olympic sport (as curling). Admired by diehard fans yea!

It would be an underground "phenomenon" called Run Club where people would gather in abandoned warehouses to see two "combatants" run and hug.

People watch what they want to watch. If you like white fighters watch white fighters. That's your choice.

It was so funny last night during the rigo fight, lederman was saying it was awful and Kellerman, Jim and RJJ tried to say people who appreciated defense would like it. Then when it was over they all said the fight was painfully boring.

Mayweather is lucky his fights sold so well. His fighting style isn't why he got to be so huge. It was his mouth and the zero on his record. If people liked to watch him fight his berto fight would have done big numbers. Only time he has big PPVs is when the fans think the opponent can beat him.

You have a choice to turn the TV off if don't like certain style in boxing
I'm sure the boxers you mention will retire with their brain in place I enjoy the art of boxing hit and don't get hit.
