First of all, I disagree with my own premise. Lots of people noted that he stopped jabbing, and he hinted that he hurt his arm. I think he'll be fine and he has a few top level fights left in him. That being said, if he is slipping, or even if there is the perception, then instead of retirement, lets see him take on some of the guys he didn't get in the past. Rahemen was cancelled due to injury a number of times- lets see it. There was trash talking and unfinished amatuer business with Maskaev. Bowe says he wants as Klit. Holyfield wants another shot. Lets make a few of these fights.
bowe, holyfield and the likes should have retired many years ago. Vitali is still good enough to be a champ, but not for much longer. I want to see him retire in a timely fashion rather than do what Evander has done.
No. Hes the number 2 guy in the division, and is the reigning WBC champion. He will continue to fight the top challengers in his division while holding the title, slipping, or not. Though I dont quite see how anyone could try to claim he isnt slipping, hes 40 years old... lol... of course hes slipping. Everyone (announcers, fans, haye, chisora) can see it. That being said, hes still good enough to beat the best of the best in the division, and I for one am interested on just how long he can do it.
He's always had trubble with quicker guys. If Kevin Johnson would have throwen some punches he may have been heavyweight champion.
The problem is Vitali's detractors are saying he'd get demolished by a guy who lost his last fight who is none other than David Haye. As you said, even with Vitali's "decline" he is still an elite which means Haye has very little chance of dominating him. I'm not sure why people are making such a big deal about Vitali losing a step. Even if he's slowed down (which is arguable because anyone can look bad against Chisora) he's done an amazing job for a 40 yr old man. B-hop gets a ton of credit for schooling young fighters while Vitali gets criticized. Go figure.
