All BJ's recentish losses have been against guys where he's gone up in weight class, it needs pointing out.
Kos and Hughes are good comp (though Hughes he'd beaten convincingly the last time, so you could argue there was nothing new proven), Serra is really noone without that GSP win.
I say let's put GSP in the octagon with Machida at 205 and see what happens. That'll make the argument clearer.
Actually their return fights matchup pretty identical. Sherk = Hughes, Kos = Stevenson, Serra = Pulver. Not identical, but very similar in terms of challenge. I actually think Pulver was tougher comp for Penn then Serra was for GSP given the size advantage GSP had and the style matchup. Kos and Stevensen both equally had about the same chance, very slim but Kos is way behind Stevenson in his submissions, but better at wrestling although GSPs submission wrestling just neutralized that. Sherk and Hughes are very similar, but Hughes is bigger and Sherk is slightly the better striker.
Why doesn't it? They both have to meet weight requirements in order to fight each other. If their both fighting in the same weight division then St. Pierre's pound for pound status shouldn't get any preferential treatment.
Nah Fed's time has come and gone, he might dominate a few bums they put in his path these days but Anderson Silva has taken the whole game to another level, the man is a pure genius and if both Fed and Silva were in the same weight class right now i know who i'd put my money on, (hint!!.. HE AIN'T RUSSIAN) .
