Would the average weight of today’s heavyweights be less if championship fights were still 15 rounds?

I doubt it, though certain of the successful ones would end up being lighter maybe.

I think Fury would fight 15. Wilder too, and he is lighter. AJ maybe — he’d exact a toll on opponents with his size and wear them do probably as much as he wears himself down.

Andy Ruiz ain’t gonna lose weight to go 15 or 45. He is what he is.

Bigger athletes in all sports are getting bigger and more athletic at large sizes so boxing wouldn’t be an exception I don’t think.

I would think they’d have to be. Just as they went up in weight immediately after going to 12. These guys look exhausted throwing 30 punches a round for 12.

Probably, for endurance purposes. But 15 rounds is way too many, even 12 are too much IMO. They should cut them down to 5 max, like MMA, and remove winning on points, you can only win by KO. If that doesn't happen, neither gets paid. That way, you force boxers to actually fight, and not to dance around like clowns and tap each other.

What is it with all you newbys about size. Fixated! Shows rather a dullard's knowledge of the sport of pugilism and what history has shown it takes to succeed.

Yes, heavyweights would be lighter on average.

Kinda hard to even imagine Joshua going a fast paced 15 round fight.

Yeah, they would. Take Joshua as an example. Look at the weight he lost just to go 12. He'd cut more to go 15, and most would follow suit.

They certainly would not be heavier.

To add my 2p about Joshua: I think his weight is often dictated by his opponent. A boxer/mover and he tends to come in lighter; a puncher/strong man and he comes in heavier.

He mentioned this when he fought late sub Takam, and came in a bit bloated as he originally planned on being at least 10lbs lighter as his opponent was Pulev.

The 15 round distance would put these so called super heavyweights training habits to the test, let's see how super their stamina is, carrying all that humongous weight. Remember the fictional character Drago in the Rocky 4 movie? He outweighed Rocky, could not finish the fight after his strength producing injections.

Maybe pre-layoff. Current Fury would struggle badly at anything other than a very slow pace.

They'd have to lose weight. Look at a lot of the heavy s around now, fighting to ten rounds takes its toll.
Can you imagine em fighting the championship round s!??
The worst thing they ever did was Lower it from 15 down.
