If Floyd beats Pac will Pac's stock lessen in regards to ATG status?

I don't think so. For one, Manny has nothing to lose in this fight. If he wins, his ATG stock will only go higher, if he loses, then Pac has the distinction of facing a bigger guy who has the style to beat him (counter puncher).

p4p wise, Manny seems to have the better resume and has fought better competition and is by all accounts the fighter of the decade. Lets not forget, Fighting Harada beat Jofre twice, Saddler beat pep many times, Pryor beat Arguello twice, Tunney Beat Greb more than once...but it doesn't mean their resume and greatness is better than the fighters they bested.

I think Manny has the better resume, and will continue to be a greater and revered fighter than Floyd even if he does lose to him...unless Floyd fights Shane, Maragarito and others and then dazzles us. :rasta

Yes. Let's not kid ourselves, it will just as beating him will raise his stock. So he'd better not lose

This is a different era. Manny must beat Floyd to maintain his current status. If Floyd defeats Manny, he will not give him another chance to avenge it... again, this isn't Saddler-Pep fighting 4 times or Robinson-LaMotta fighting 6 times. That doesn't happen anymore, particularly when you have a cherry-picker like Floyd.

If Floyd defeats Manny, Floyd will command the throne at least until -time and posterity- take a more objective look at the two fighters and their legacies.

We live in the ADD era. Floyd is all over the airwaves screaming "I'm undefeated, Manny is not" and there are some who actually lend credence to that as if it negates the fact that Manny has faced dragons and Floyd has not. Those who can be bothered to look closely see it for what it is.

Manny really has to beat Floyd ....or he will fall from grace.

For that matter, Floyd has to beat Manny, or he will have to stick his foot in his mouth and then stick both feet of his uncle Roger into his mouth too.

It may lessen a little, but not that much.

Also depends on how he loses. If it's a competitive fight, or if Pacquiao is dominated.

To those who expect Pac to win, yes. To those who expect Pac to lose, no.

of course it goes deeper than just winning or losing. But I'd imagine that if someone ranks Pac lets say at #20 on his ATG list, but he still expects Floyd to win 8 rounds to 4, then if Floyd does win 8 rounds to 4 i don't see why Pac's ATG status would take a hit.

Floyd does seem to be a decent favorite going into this fight.

It will lessen a little, but not enough for Mayweather to overtake him.

If this fight doesn't come off in the first place because of all the pre-fight nonsense his stock with lessen.

To people who don't understand the sport, yes. To people who value Floyd and Calzaghe's 0 more than any other record with a loss, sure. Not to thinking fans that know if two great fighters enter the ring and one loses, it doesn't erase prior accomplishments.

    Nothing to add. Good post.

I expect Mayweather to beat Pac. He is Pac´s nightmare stylewise and the bigger man - and imo the better fighter. But Pac´s got the resume. Mayweather does not - sadly for us fans.

True. And rightfully so, just take that damned test. If he is cheating his stock will lessen even further.

Assuming Pac gives an earnest effort and loses an 8-4 type decision as I think he will (assuming Mayweather doesn't decline) then no, he will not drop in my estimation. In my estimation though, Pac is not ridiculously high right at the moment, whereas I feel he is for a lot of others.

It will change if part of the reason you rank him highly (which must be some part of it) is because he has a degree of H2H ability. Mayweather's the one who really has things to prove, though.
