It's pretty obvious why Floyd would duck a dude. He's undefeated and knows that a loss would do to his marketability given the fact that he is not the most exciting fighter to the casual boxing fan which is crucial to PPV revenue. He and his dad are extremely conservative (just look at how his father taught him to box) I would like to know why you think Pacquiao would duck a dude like Floyd? What about Pacquiao gives you the indication that he is conservative and afraid to lose? He has already lost several times to lesser men than Floyd. He is 10 times more exciting than Floyd, so he doesn't have the same pressure on him to win every single fight. Fighters who are exciting like Pacquiao (and less talented, but equally exciting boxers like Gatti and Ward before him) could lose and still make very good money and generate high ratings because they are exciting to watch. Even if they fought and Pacquiao lost the first fight, you don't think there would be at least one more? ****, we are about to get a second Maidana fight. You don't think Pacquiao would have been at least as competitive as Maidana and thus warrant a rematch? You really think Arum and Pacquiao were afraid to lose to Floyd and ducked him in favor of Marquez and others? That make no sense! What's the harm in losing to Floyd? Pacquiao was KTFO by a dude that Floyd dominated and people STILL want to see him fight Floyd. If that's not proof of how big this fight is and how little people care about records if a dude is exciting and has skills, I don't know what is!
If you asked me in 2009, i would tell you that the fight never happen and it was all arum's fault. If you follow the money back then, Arum had the most to lose and more importantly the most to gain by not making the fight happen. Bob made almost as much money having Pac fight in house so he could double dip. In 2012, he got tired of Arum ignoring the calls from GBP so he called Pac directly. So for him to say to Pac if you need to leave Top Rank if you want the fight (this is not the first time in history that a fighter needed to sign with a promoter to get a big fight) is not inconsistent, because Arum has always been the issue. remember floyd and bob has never gotten along since he left TR and for him make another attempt to make the fight (because bob never really tried) is like him trying one last time to make it happen. If the fight does happen it is not because Floyd was reluctant to make the fight all these years (he was the one who instructed GBP to send a contract to Bob and he called Pac directly) but rather it is Bob who is more willing to make the fight because the Pacs star has started to diminish and this is bob's way of finally cashing out. now I do not have any inside information but given everything we know about what has happened over the last 5 years. I think my hypothesis is far closer than all those fools who spend half the day on here calling names and acting like fools
Good points and analysis. I don't doubt that Arum wasn't enthusiastic about making the fight but was definitely willing to and was instructed to by Pacquiao. Again I don't see how Arum loses if Pacquiao loses. Pacquiao's drawing power was not predicated on winning to anywhere near the degree that Floyd's was and is. If this were a court case and we were in the jury, the prosecutor would be presenting a pattern of behavior on the part of Floyd and one would see that his behavior over the years since he moved up to 140 has been consistent with a man who is overly concerned with risk taking. Manny, on the other hand is the antithesis. Manny has taken on many opponents in which the risk of him losing was great (he was the underdog in multiple fights) and he should be given the benefit of the doubt while Floyd should not. Actions speak louder than words. Floyd can say till he's blue in the face that he "doesn't duck or dodge nobody" but he needs to finish the sentence. "I don't duck or dodge nobody who doesn't have a good chance of beating me". TBE= The Best Evader.
