Nope. Pacquiao has done more and remains the fighter of the decade in my opinion. First ever lineal champion in four weight divisions and first ever seven weight division champion with the eighth on the way. For Mayweather to beat that he has to win titles all the way to Cruiserweight to be even with Pac.

 

Then DLH would be fighter of the Decade two times over. It's NOT a popularity contest. It's about substance and depth in a fighters career that warrants this kind of honor.

Floyd is a very superb boxer....highly cabable and highly skilled. But him being SUPERIOR as a "FIGHTER" is a competley different story. Not all the time the classic boxer wins just b/c he's more technically skilled. THere are OTHER elements that fighters have that can play a more vital role in figuring out who the better fighter is.

Floyd was a very good runner up to the Fighter of the decade honor and would have gotten it if Manny was never created. But of course that's not reality.

 

2001-2010 equals a decade, which was the criteria for the Honors PAC received. After 2010 is done and gone the FOTD honors resets and it's about what they do from 2011 to 2020. Floyd could be up for that if he sticks around long enough. I doubt it.

 

Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter of his generation & if he beats Manny Pacquiao, he'll further his standing as the best of his generation!

However, I'm not sure the fight will happen. All those legal issues Floyd has hanging over him does not bode well for the chance of it taking place. IMO, it happens next May or does not happen at all!

He can keep fighter of the decade. If he losses it will be a hollow award anyway. Kinda like Reggie Bush winning the Heisman and the runner up Vince Young in the National Championship game outplayed him and won the championship and showing the world who was really the Heisman trophy winner and the better player.

 

If Floyd would fought and beat Pac last year or maybe even this year then yes he is FOTD for 2000-2009.

If Floyd fights Pacquiao next year and beats him then it only puts him as the front runner for FOTD 2010-2019/
