I'm not a Floyd fan but he did not lose to Oscar or Maidana. JLC yes, but the Dela Hoya fight is when I stopped liking him. He was talking like he dominated him...this was his Tyson to Berkick moment, his Ali to Liston and he barely got by an aged Oscar. He was acting like he KO'd him. I just lost that respect when I saw what he considered a 'dominating' performance. When you dominate, your opponent shouldnt be bragging about how his face looks great and he wishes you would fight him in a phone booth after. I dont recall Berick or Liston talking much after their respective losses.
on the flipside, I doubt these Pac fanatics will say Pacquiao was never that good when Floyd beats him.
Ortiz was the next superstar, but his skill couldnt keep up with the hype, so was berto. Ottke or whatever his name was undefeated but he didnt become a superstar because he fought no one. Mayweather has been p4p #1 because of his skill not because of his undefeated record or careful matchmaking. if Castillo, corrales, Hatton, ODLH, canelo etc etc are careful matchmaking then every boxer out there right now is cherry picking
of course not.......His skills are undeniable and so is his accomplishments. Styles make fights and anyone can lose. Floyd hasn't but that has a lot to do with a combination of things......He works hard, he is overly cautious, he is a defensive wizard with a defensive mind and he is risk adverse. If he loses to Manny it's Floyd stepping outside of his comfort zone and taking more risk which is something he's been criticized for......if he loses taking a risk it shouldn't be held against him.
If its a close fight and floyd loses it doesnt do much in terms of hurting his legacy. If he goes in and gets absolutely destroyed his legacy will take a hit in a sense that he can no longer claim to be the best ever. all that is out the window and he`ll look foolish pushing it. It wont mean hes not as good as people thought because then the reverse would also be true. if floyd dominates manny does that mean manny wasnt as good as people thought? hell no!
