If Floyd lost to Pac, how damaging would it be to his legacy?

Quite possibly. I can seriously envisage that. I mean I look at what Floyd did to Marquez - the way he completely neutralized his offence was impressive. That's the thing with Pac he looks good in destroying bigger stronger fighters.

Being bigger for Hatton, Cotto, De la Hoya, and Margarito worked against them. They came straight at Pacquiao - directly playing into Pacquiao's hand speed, power, akward angles, work-rate and physical strength and foot movement. The guys he has struggled with - Morales and Marquez, actually used intelligent foot movement to offset Pac's offence.

Those two guys stepped BACK, yes back rather than going forward, to counter Pac. They both allowed Pac to throw, stepped back, used their good jabs and straight punches to counter him when he was overextended and off balance and then and only then threw the combinations.

Pac has improved since then it is true. He has added a nice right hook for one.

But no one in the game can move use his foot movement - often laterally to offset an guy's offence, like Floyd. He leaves you lunging at nothing. Floyd says he doesn't watch tapes. Bull****. He does. And he would see what Marquez and Morales did and would try and use his superior speed, great jab, sharp straight and great foot movement and rolling to make Pac off balance and vulnerable to counters.

Now, having said that. Floyd has been hit hardest (bar Mosley) by two southpaws in Corley and Judah. The shoulder roll is harder to make effective against southpaws. Add to the fact that Floyd has never faced anyone as fast as Pac, with the stamina he has, the awkwardness he has, nor the consecutive power punches that he throws. Pac is so active that he could outwork Floyd and win on work rate alone.

And as always, when we have doubted either of them they have both pulled out the performances of their lives. What if they did that against each other? We could have a great fight there. Fingers crossed. :happy

Depends on how Floyd lost. His legacy could actually go up if he had a great perfromance where he answered a lot of unanswered questions about his mentality as a fighter. but if he ran and/or got dominated it definitley wouldn't be a good look for Floyd. Losing to PAC isn't a loss that will destroy anyone's career but becuase were talking about Floyd a win or loss means so much more to his overall legacy.

Not if you can't hit him or have to use your face to block punches. Work rate will not be an issue for Floyd because Pac will be getting touched constantly! If Money throws 30 punches in a round, he'll connect 27 x's as opposed to Pac who'll be getting touched enough not to throw. I would love to see Pacman throw one of those 9 or 11 punch combos against Floyd. He'd wake up in Manila!

I don't think it would hurt him at all unless he was totally dominated from start to finish.

Depends where you rank him. If you think he's a top ten fighter then obviously a loss affects him a lot. Whereas if you have top 30 it probably won't affect him at all.

Then again if him and pac go 1-1 with each other than that'll likely catapult both into the top 15 on most people's list(providing they both retire in the aftermath).

A loss by either guy will diminish his legacy only slightly.

In this matter, Floyd has slightly more to lose than Pac.

Forget about legacy, think about his market value.
Once that "0" disappears, nobody except for his hardcore fans would care to watch him, unless it will be against Pac again.
And Floyd understands this, thus the "retirement" when the WW division was hot and the "vacation" when Pac is eating up everyone in their division.

Not that much. He was p4p #1 for nearly a decade without Pac, is already an ATG probably between top 25-40. Pac is a superman to people right now, so I don't think it hurts him nearly as much as it hurts Pac if say, he loses to Mosley.

To me Pac's legacy is forever in place, if we just look at how big these guys are in their own countries. Pac is a God in the Phillipines, I don't find the same true for Floyd in America, he will never be as big here as Pac is in the Phillipines, but if he beats Pac if they should fight, it would up his stock to a much higher level, and Pac would still be loved forever in the Phillipines, and I'm just talking about their home countries as a point.

I don't think it would hurt Floyd that much, it would just boost the **** out of Pacquiao's

Not as damaging as not fighting him period, same rule applies to Pac.

If they dont fight then neither fighter deserves to be mentioned with the elite ATGs... anyone who says different is obviously a fanboy of 1 of these guys & cares little about the reputation & future of boxing.

Doesnt matter one bit because those that refuse to give credit will only be doing it because their fav fighter got beat in the biggest fight of our time, they will know the truth in their heart & will only embarass themselves by refusing to give credit to the victor whether that be Mayweather or Pacquiao (likely Mayweather)

Assuming it's their last fight and Pac wins, I think it totally destroys Floyd's legacy. Throughout his career, there's been the stigma that he's avoided the top guys and then to finally face one a lose would be a pretty big blow.

A lost for Floyd might put him out of the top 50 boxers of all time. A win would put him in the top 20.

A win for Pac would put him in the top in the top 10. A lost would put him in the top 30.

But win or lose, they both still get in the HOF.
