Thats a big if, but in the event that he does this, really... **** him and the horse he rode in on. Boxing is in a struggle to maintain itself right now with a rival sport, and a fight with Cotto would do huge things for it. Its the sport that gave him all that fancy **** he has, that should count for something. If he goes to fight bums in the UFC for big money it would really hurt boxing.
Boxing has bigger fish to fry than loosing Mayweather to UFC. The big danger is in the P4P number one gettiing his ass beat to hell in the octagon, which is likely gonna happen, and discrediting the sport on a big picture. But what boxing has to worry about is how it lost its audience and UFC gained a huge audience, and that's exposure. Boxing needs to have its fights as easily accessed as UFC. In reality, its apples and oranges. Two different sports. Rugby never crossed over into football and vice versa.
Boxing simply needs the best to fight the best. When that happens, there is nothing like this sport and IMO the UFC doens't hold a candle to it on the whole (although guys like A. Silva are amazing). Do that and the sport is on the map.
perhaps if boxing, didnt try and make a huge competition with MMA and actually decided to extend the olive branch this could have helped boxing. MMA is good for boxing, and likewise for MMA . Problem is, both sides do nothing but badmouth each other and it's respective competitors. Floyd Mayweather owes boxing nothing and vice versa. if the rumors are true, Floyd could become a two sport star. boxing fans would def. watch him fight MMA, it's a good move for Floyd financially.
That's unless someone doesn't grapple his ass to the canvas within ten seconds of the beginning of the fight.
:deal He is going to fight low level guys, this doesn't help either sport, its just a big money publicity stunt for UFC and a cash grab for Floyd. Its an artificial relationship that doesn't go beyond that. Anyone who thinks Floyd is going to be a top level guy in UFC at 31 years old and with not experience on the ground simply doesn't understand UFC.
Floyd would get put into an Arm bar and get his elbow hyper extended, is that what you guys want? If he gets his arm hyper extended hardcore kiss his boxing career goodbye because he won't be the same after a possible injury like that.
BTW, I think Floyd Mayweather already thinks hes 1-0 in Mixed Martial Arts....freshly coming off his big win over Ricky Hatton..LMFAO
I agree 100%. This would show Floyd does NOT care about boxing at all. He'll ***** himself to the highest bidder. Money is all that matters....atsch
For real, these maniacal dimwits act like he cant do what the hell he wants. This is a ****ing democracy. He BEEN talking about retiring pre-Cotto era...
more proof this guy is just an attention *****...if he complains about his hands and body takin a toll on his body...and cant take the punishment anymore...hows he going to deal with smaller gloves? the kicking and **** to the legs and what not... oh well...only ruins his boxing ATG imo and the way he will viewed many years later
I'm not sure if I feel the football--I assume you means soccer and not American football--and rugby example is all that compelling. While they do compete with each other for similar talent bases, there are some differences between the physical prototypes among the sports. Furthermore, in Europe, I am under the impression that football is pretty much king. It's not as though either boxing or MMA are even amongst the five most popular sports in the United States. American football and basketball are fine coexisting becuase they are each getting elite athletes and lots of media and general sports fan attention. As it stands, the two kinds of combat sports often compete with each other for media, fans and athletes. With the recent momentum of UFC and other MMA leagues, having boxing's best fighter retire young and take up a career with MMA, whether he succeeds or not, sends a very bad signal to people about what the future holds. I, personally, would like Mayweather to stay around and fight Cotto, should he beat Margarito. However, it's not the end of the world if he leaves the sport. The man gets to make the decision he wants and no one can really begrude him that. Yet, looking at this more pragmatically, I feel this could damage the future prospects of the sport. If Mayweather is leaving, I'd prefer it if he just went away.
Because he is the self proclaimed "face of boxing." He left the biggest fight in boxing on the table to retire, and I respected that and praised him for getting out of the game. But to go to boxing's biggest rival to fight bumbs would be disrespectful to the sport and I don't see how it can be percieved any other way. 1. Boxing loses its biggest (or 2nd biggest) star 2. Boxing loses its best fighter and p4p #1 3. Boxing loses its biggest, most enthralling fight 4. & loses it to its chief competitor who is constantly downplaying it as sport of the past. How in the hell else should I take it?
Floyd Mayweather could take a **** on your doorstep and you would frame it and put in on your wall, and then call your friends that question why you put framed **** on your wall jeolous ass haters. The man can simply do no wrong in your eyes.
