.. he would've been in a division where he'd have had more success against top opposition. Why did he stay in a division that he seemed to be terrified of?

He saw Zab as a glorified jr.welter is what it was. He knew he could beat Zab because he saw Zab struggle with guys like Pineda and others. Zab's main win was over Spinks (rematch, lost first fight) who Mayweather beats in both skill and power and also composure. Zab really only had two very impressive performances at welter the whole time he was there. One against underdog Cosme Rivera, and the other in a rematch against Spinks. For H2H comparisons, those are both very winnable fights for Zab. Against the other top welters he would have struggled and he has shown that since to be true. He's just too small for the weight class.

Baldomir upset the apple cart by winning as a 13-1 dog. Really if anyone followed Zab's move to 147 the odds should have been much closer than that. Baldomir himself is no top 5 welter. He is a journeyman who proved that Zab should be back at 140.

In each of the divisions he moved to, 140 (Gatti), 147 (Zab/Baldomir), 154 (DLH) he took on all the easiest champions of the selectable bunch. That cannot be questioned. Sure he made more money fighting who he did, but he also had no intention of owning up to the requirements of being the undisputed top guy in those divisions.

Ideally he could have stayed at 140 and probably beaten everyone there. He's a richer man for the choices he made but he proved nothing at those weights. That is a fact. His move to those weights likens to RJJ's victory over John Ruiz. A good win but nothing to claim you were once the best at that weight class.

Just to get a belt in a division this high. Sort of like DLH getting a belt @ 160. Vanity and nothing else.

Still, who would you have favored over DLH while he held that belt at 154?

He beat the best at 140. Its not his fault that bout didnt take place at 140.

Saying he didnt beat the best at 147 is speculation. Spinks was undisputed. Judah beat him. Baldomir beat Judah. Mayweather beat both Judah and Baldomir. Whether they were the best is debatable, but Spinks was the undisputed champion. All other champions at the time were paper champions holding vacated titles.

154 is pretty quiet now and has been for a couple years now. I think Spinks could've beaten DLH. I'd take Forrest over him too. Not sure about ouma, but his volume and toughness might be good enought to beat DLH still.

    :good

    All toss ups.

So, is it fair to say that Floyd arguably beat the best 154 pounder then?
