I dont think people would ever be happy with his opponent choices. He beat everyone put in front of him and usually done it with ease and before he fought Hatton people were demanding he proved his worth by fighting Ricky so he did and low and behold he still doesnt get his due props. All imo of course lol

Floyd is one of the sports true modern legends and we will miss him when he's gone

If he stayed at 135 and only defended the WBC belt his resume might look like this: Juan Lazcano, Joel Casamayor, Julio Diaz, Diego Corrales II, Jose Armando Santa Cruz, David Diaz, Joel Casamayor II, Erik Morales. That is a pretty strong resume.
IBF champions are: Javier Jauregui, Julio Diaz, Leavander Johnson, Jesus Chavez, Julio Diaz, Juan Diaz.
WBA: Lakva Sim, Juan Diaz, Jose Miguel Cotto, Juan Diaz
WBO: Acelino Freitas, Diego Corrales, Acelino Freitas, Michael Katsidis, Juan Diaz, Michael Katsidis, Juan Diaz.
I think he would half to fight Juan Diaz at some point and possibily Acelino Freitas as well.
Ok lets say his record looks like: 1. Juan Lazcano Mayweather's record 31-0
    2. Joel Casamayor 32-0
    3. Julio Diaz 33-0
    4. Diego Corrales II 34-0
    5. Jose Armando Santa Cruz 35-0
    6. Juan Diaz (WBA,WBO) 36-0
    7. Julio Diaz II (IBF) 37-0
That is 10 sescfusful tittle defenses and an Undisputited light weight championship. Mayweather is already consedered to be among the best at 130. It would be very hard for someone to say a lightweight record like the one above would not put him in the same company as Benny Leonard, Pernell Whitaker, Roberto Duran and Joe Gans.
I personaly rate Mayweather high as it is. I think the only thing missing is that he never took on anyone that was consedered to have any real chance against him with his abilities this would mean he would have had to have fought at 154 and/or 160. I think in this alternet reality he would have had to face top 140 and or 147 opoents as well.

The standard of his opponents at 140 are the weakest - compared to those at 130, 135, 147 & 154.

He may get criticised for fighting guys that had no chance, but in all seriousness, how many guys in the boxing world today (and in recent years) actually had a chance against Mayweather??

(Based on being prime vs prime, and in a suitable weight class)

    Not many :deal

Floyd has never unified a division, but neither has Miguel Cotto, and many other top class fighters.

Cotto just now has the chance. Floyd had his entire career to try and beat another champ in his division. You'll probably find more who did unify then who didn't.

Well it is of course assuming that Cotto wins, i said it comes down to the winner of Cotto-Margarito....

I agree that Floyd is ATG now, but if Floyd wants to go one level higher than he already is, he needs Cotto more than anything. You say Floyd is retired but we all know, Floyd will not be able to knock back the multi-multi-million dollar contract he will get offered for 1 more fight.

Uhm. Maybe at 130. Not 135, maybe now if he was still there.

Floyd naturally weighs 147. And on fight night weighs 147ish.

So cutting water weight wouldn't be a huge deal.

Mayweather's greatness stems from him being perhaps the best Super Featherweight champion ever.

Mayweather's negatives are that his quality of competion since Castillo arent A) In his class or B) The fighters he should have fought.

Why no Morales, Barrera, or Tszyu?

My own genuine opinion is his reputation would have been far far greater than it is now. He would've been rated 1 of the very very best, I mean like top 3 of all-time, at those weights, and maybe top 20 P4P ever. He was so so much better at those weights, could've proved it when better opposition came along and improved his resume. I know it's an unpopular opinion on here, but I don't think PBF has been anything special at 140-147. He doesn't have the same punch power and isn't as mobile or attacking. I think Cotto beats his now, and I think PBF knows it, hence the retirement at 31. Yes, people probably would have said "why didn't he move up?", but that question eternally being asked would not have been as damaging to his all-time status as actaully knowing he wasn't anywhere near as good at the higher weights, as we know now. Being a one-weight fighter hasn't harmed Marvin Hagler or Carlos Monzon much in ATG terms. But guys like RJJ was as good at light-heavyweight as he was at middleweight. DLH was as good at welterweight as he was at lightweight. It is a slight black mark on PBF's career that he was never as effective after he moved up.

if floyd stayed at 130-135 he'll get very high regard..especially how he was at 130 and 135. But for what he did he became more popular and mainstream

What if Trinidad had stayed at 147 his whole career thats a better question. Considering Felix was exciting and willing to fight anyone.
