I have his career on DVD ,and as much as I love the guy he showed severe lack of concentration when guys like Don Halpin, Mike Jameson, Quick Tillis, Green and Smith used some spoiler tactics. Ali would not only nullify his close inside attacks, but pick him apart at long range.

its why studying his career and over al legacy and status is so tough

he has so many what ifs

like what if cus was around a bit longer

or if Rooney never got the axe

or if Don King didnt break up his camp

    or no disasterous marriage

    or no jail time

i mean what he did prior to Douglas was amazing but we never saw him tested prior to a point in his career where you could point to factors that can excuse him of these losses

what we know is he KO'd a lot of top guys and past present or future champs he was at a time a great puncher but defensivley good and had great combos upstairs and downstairs

personally i think if he stayed in good shape and trained hard and focused and surrounded himself in the right crowd how long could he really last

from what evidence we do have he could not comeback

if he got by Douglas he had Holyfield

if he got past him (doubt he ever would any day ever) he had

Bowe, Moorer, Foreman, Morrison, Mercer, Lewis, Cooper

I mean realistically he would have been 23, 24 could he really have beat all those guys without losing

    i highly doubt it

Taking Punches is not an advantage by any means! Name of the game is to hit & not get hit!

Question: The Ali of March 1971 vs a Peak Tyson. Who you got?

Tyson had not shown an ability to battle back from adversity in a tough, rugged battle in the ring. Coming from behind, against odds to win. He came up against it with Douglas lost, Holyfield twice lost, Lewis lost. Here`s the difference, could you EVER count Ali out ? He NEVER quit, and on numerous occasions overcame tough situations and came out on top. There comes a time for a fighter when talent and skills aren`t enough. If push came to shove, Ali had that `extra` in the tank. Tyson is not a mental midget. I just feel that Ali could break his spirit, and break his style down as well. Rememeber, Ali certainly wouldn`t cower with fear and look to survive if Tyson nailed him. I still feel that Ali`s ( especially Clay) skill and physical equipment was more than enough to get it down. But, failing that. If it came down to will, fighting spirit and dealing with adversity. This is no contest...

If Frazier could do it, Tyson could do it better. Mike and Joe had similar styles. Cus D'Amato was a big fan of Frazier and he predicted that Joe would beat Ali.

i love tyson, and rate him very highly at his peak, in terms of ATG.

but just because frazier beat ali, it doesnt mean tyson would.

and the reason frazier beat him, was because frazier could take a HELL of alot of punishment, and continue dishing out, which is the only question mark over tyson, and a very significant one, as far as a hypothetical ali-tyson match up is concerned

I definitely think that Tyson could have beat Ali. Just as Prime Foreman would have been a horrible matchup for Tyson.

Ali dominated arguably the biggest banger in heavyweight history. (George Foreman) A prime Ali would take Tyson 8 or 9 times out of 10.

I'm still waiting to see that one mentally tough world class Tyson victim that would indicate that Tyson would have beaten Ali.

...If we're talking prime for prime, it's so not fair to count a still learning, green Tyson. For all but Smith he had no real world level experience. It's like putting a lot on the early pre-Title fight Ali getting knocked down against Cooper and Banks.
