Would he have the best record/resume of any British fighter ever? Can't think of many that would rank above him in terms of quality wins, what do you reckon?
Resume/Record doesn't always equate to 'the best'. In regard to the thread I don't think it would immediately put him up there but depends on what Groves goes on to achieve in the rest of his career. A win like Groves can go either way. For example a Froch win on Calzaghe's record would look a far better win today than it would when it was muted.
You are saying best british career.. lennox lewis, joe calzaghe, nigel benn, chris eubank all hold better more stellar records. The oppostion froch has faced has been at a good level but his career best fight was against mikkel kessler a man who was outboxed in a shut out by joe calzaghe. Joe calzaghe was the ring magazine champ for the super middle weights and the light heavyweights after toppling Hopkins in his own backyard.
Well I'm a Calzaghe man but what you've gotta say about Froch taking this fight is that he's willing to take on one of the young up and comers at the age of 36, at a point in his career when he can take his pick. Whereas I'm afraid Joe didn't do the same by taking a meaningless but profitable fight against Jones instead of a then undefeated Dawson or Pavlik. Obviously Calzaghe beats Froch head to head but Froch will really be stacking up the plus points on his record by taking and winning fights like this. In fact, I've got more respect for Froch taking this fight now than any of his others.
At least Froch can say he will face up and comers, guys like Calzaghe turned away very winnable fights of Froch and Pavlik when they was undefeated. Froch is a rare career when there will be no question marks, he fought everyone he could from domestic, world and elite levels. Fighting Groves shows he is not afraid of young blood.
would say calzaghe better fighter although froch has been willing to fight any1 and anywhere even at 36 whereas at latter stages calzaghe opted to fight jones when he was well past it sayn that dont know what opportunitys he had as we know frank ****** likes to protect unbeaten records
Not best ever but he is getting up there. I think even another loss to Ward as long as it was competetive would enhance his record rather than wreck it. He has been an awesome fighter to be proud of and continues to be!!!
