If Froch wins the tourney does he become the greatest supermiddle of all time?

I agree with you Brick, the caliber of fighters, ESPECIALLY the different styles each fighter posses is pretty unbelieavable if you ask me. If the winner of this tournament defends his title against Bute, maybe andrade and possibly Bika, hands down one of the best smws OF ALL TIME, that is guaranteed.

Am I correct to presume that the winner of this tournament will come out with both the WBA & WBC belts? (theoretically)

No. However if one of these guys wins all his fights convincingly they're right up there. But what are the chances of that happening?

Probably not. The WBC said they'll let the tournament go through without enforcing mandatories, so the winner should end up with the WBC belt either way. The WBA belt hasn't gone along, and they'll probably force someone to vacate at one point or another. Also, chances are that whoever comes in second place would become the mandatory challenger for one of the other belts.

Brick, you know the same as me man that talk is cheap where the WBC are concerned.Im pretty sure there are clause's in any agreement they've made, along with "step aside" money.Lets hope the governing bodies let the tourney run its course.

Kind of a knee-jerk reaction to the question isn't it? We have to uphold the winner of the tournament to criteria that actually exist. Why should we ask the winner of the tournament to "unify the division and have a couple of defense" when that has never been done before, unless you wanna count Calzaghe-Lacy as "unifying the division"?

A Froch win is highly unlikely, but if he were to win five fights in the tourney, he'd be an unbeaten champ with a Pascal-Taylor (2)-Ward-Dirrell-Abraham-Kessler track record (for simplicity's sake, let's say he fights a different guy at each step of the tourney). That seems to me superior to Calzaghe's seven best win at the weight (Kessler-Bika-Lacy-Mitchell-Brewer-Reid-Eubank or thereabout).

My answer to the question is no, but it's certainly not laughable.

Do you even understand my points??? If I'm not mistaked the title of this thread is called Froch winning the tournament to become the GREATEST SUPERMIDDLE WEIGHT OF ALL TIME....If I'm not mistaked...you have to do more than win a tournament...Right now Calzaghe is considered the Greatest Super Middleweight of All time...and for Froch to solidify his name to that status he must unify and hold over a decade of defending your strap...it makes sense to ask for a guy to unify a division if he wants to be considered great.

if he wins this tournament with his 0 intact as far as im concerned his cleaned up the division and unified, but he needs to defend the title bout 10 times then > calzaghe
