If he went on to beat Jalalov, Dychko, Anderson, and some other young guys he might be an atg. No way will he actually fight anyone like them however...

Marciano is considered an ATG for beating up on old men.

LoL… It is exactly like Fury says… He has nothing to gain and everything to lose.. If he beats Usyk it won’t matter in many peoples eyes. If he is defeated by Usyk he must be trash.. F***ing casuals…

True enough, but RM beat several old ATG's. If he had only beaten Louis he would not be rated s highly. That being said, I think RM is somewhat overrated too.

    Fixed for you.

BTW, Fury's ONLY win over a probable HOF boxer was Wlad Klit, who was 39 when Fury beat him, which was OLDER THAN ANY MARCIANO TITLE OPPONENT.

H2H might be a menace to anyone. But in actual rankings, off accomplishments, he falls rather short.

Agreed! But if fans use the mythical H2H match as a gauge for ATG status, I cannot argue. I just use real fight history for my gauge.

    NO.
IF Fury loses to Usyk it won't change the fact that Fury ended Wladimir Klitschko's decade-long dominance and invincibility. Someone had to stop it, or Wladimir Klitschko would retire as champion. It just so happened that the Chosen Boxer was Tyson Fury, and Tyson Fury's eventual loss to Oleksandr Usyk will not change that.
Tyson Fury also ended the five-year WBC reign of undefeated knockout artist Deontay Wilder. Besides Tyson Fury, which other boxer has defeated Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder (AJ theoretically has that chance, but even if he succeeded he would not reach the glory of Tyson Fury)?
IF Fury loses to Usyk, then Usyk will deservedly become the lineal heavyweight champion.

Exactly. H2H has NO WAY of being used legitimately for any type of long term ranking. What they accomplish and who they beat in their era is the only way.

Fury one of the greatest of all time? Have a day off.

AJ has by far the deepest resume at heavyweight. Tyson has some ways to go to get to that level.

Imagine he loses to Usyk, but then faces Joyce, AJ and 2-3 more top 5-top 10 fighters and wins all that. So he'll have almost the best that could've been done currently, just losing to Usyk. So in that sense, he would be a great fighter, the level of the other fighters doesn't depend on him. If he loses to Usyk and quits or continues with few mediocre fights, then yes - he'll deserve to be called just one of the very good, but not great.

How about (a thread) if he wins against Usyk - the haters will continue bashing him for his opponents. They even got their "insurance" saying that even if he beats Joyce, AJ and some other top fighters he still won't be that great. So be objective - some people say everything to be simply unfair to him.

I am thinking of discussing how great he was once he retires.

OK. I understand what you are saying, but I wonder why the chosen boxer was not: Bryant Jennings, Kubrat Pulev, Alex Leapai, Alexander Povetkin, Francesco Pianeta, Mariusz Wach, Tony Thompson, Jean Marc Mormeck, David Haye, Samuel Peter, Eddie Chambers, Ruslan Chagaev, Hasim Rahman, Sultan Ibragimov, Lamon Brewster, Ray Austin, or Calvin Brock?
    Are you thinking about it?

    Mummy Joyce?

Maybe it depends on how many names you get down a list before the names go from 'all time great' to just 'great'. I have Fury in maybe the top 25 given that he ended two massive title-reign streaks, has been lineal champion for ages and is a 2x ring champion, but that he has padded his win streak quite a lot with bin men. It's subjective but my boxing history is OK, not amazing.

If he beats Usyk he'll become the first ever 3x ring champion and the first undisputed HW in the 4 belt era, so he breaks in to my top 20, maybe top 15. The AJ fight does nothing for him at this point; Joyce is a far bigger threat. So that win secures him in my top 15.

It's also worth noting most guys don't fight nearly as much or at such a consistent quality of opposition as in past eras, so getting that ATG status is going to be almost impossible to achieve.

So...where does Usyk rank if he beats Fury?

Fury is no ATG and him losing to Usyk wont change anything.

Even in defeat, if Fury makes it close, it will only improve his status.

He will get more respect from me at least
