Assuming he beats Whyte of course. As well I don't really believe he will retire after Whyte but let's assume he does. What is his legacy among the greats of Boxing?

I dont think there will be much of a legacy if he retires after this fight. He didn’t fight for a long time after the Klitschko fight. Almost lost to Otto Wallin. He fought Wilder 3 times, I don’t think that counts for much as Wilders resume isn’t exactly deep. If he retires without fighting Joshua and Usyk then he will probably be forgotten fairly quickly in boxing terms.

Among the greats, shouldn’t even be in the conversation. He wouldn’t even have the best achievements of a British heavyweight. That belongs to Lennox Lewis

Do you think people will try to bring up the argument that Fury does himself, that he'd have been able to beat any HW in Boxing history due to his size and skills. Will that argument diminish if he retires as well?

Whether people bring it up or not, that argument isn’t even valid. Yes Fury is on the bigger side of the spectrum for heavyweights, but against elite opponents I dont think it would matter that much.

Wilder could catch him repeatedly with a right hand without even setting it up, that tells me Fury isn’t even that skilled. I think he is just the best of a bad bunch out of the true heavyweights of now. When this era of heavyweights are out the door, i think Usyk will be the one mentioned alongside the greats … not Fury.

Clusters with Riddick Bowe, Tim Witherspoon, Joe Walcott, Floyd Patterson, Ken Norton, Vitali Klitschko. Maybe at the high end of the group.

I think he needs to beat Usyk or the winner of Joshua v. Usyk II to truly solidify/cement his legacy. But he is a great fighter.

Raw talent, handspeed, footwork, heart, charisma by the ton and willing to fight anyone then up there with a Holyfield. But doesn't have the wins to even edge topping Holyfield. Mostly old fighters past their prime or the big wins of dangerman Wilder, the most dangerious HW at that time who would wipe fighters out with that right. Very entertaining, great talent, surprising hand and foot speed for his massive size and ring IQ. Outside of a prime and lethal Wilder I can't say much

    If he retires

he was not willing to be great.

    Simple as that.

He will always be remembered as the fighter that came back from abusing his body for several years and beat the undefeated Wilder and handed him his walking papers.

His legacy assuming he beats Whyte and retires

He would be the fighter that won
WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, Ring, HW titles
    Became the Lineal HW champ

Won all his world titles away
Beat 2 long reigning HW champions

Speaking as a Fury fan, his potential legacy as it stands, assuming he beats Whyte is still very much a work in progress IMO

If he has two more fights after Whyte with AJ & Usyk (not looking likely RE Usyk but we can hope) and beats them both then Fury's Legacy will be up there and in the mix with the best of them.

Like vitali and bowe. H2h top picks who lack the resume of guys like Ali and holyfield and Louis.

Maybe as time went on ppl would rate him higher like they do Holmes bc right now ppl are very harsh in this era of heavyweights but hindsight may change that like it did with the 80s hws.

Let's assume he continues to fight...who is worthwhile for his resume?

AJ (smashes to pieces) or Usyk. It will be either one, not both
    Joyce (decisions over the distance)
Andy Ruiz Jr (beats with ease)

Nice to get them on there...but on paper they are pretty clear wins for Fury. Usyk is the only Trump card but by the time they come to fight I think Fury's size will be an even bigger factor as Usyk ages, 36.

Whyte fight is a big one because Furys clearly had issues in the fight and both his elbows were shot. If he has clear elbow issues again then it shows this is no bluff, he might likely retire. Once your cartilage is gone it's gone.

He would remain in the top 15 HW champs due to lack of HOF opposition.
The ONLY way he breaks the top 10 is if he defeats (or loses in a great fight) Joshua and
Usyk, and of the two, only Usyk is HOF level.

He and Wilder will be remembered by their trilogy, in which Fury was dropped how many times?
6? By a very undisciplined boxer with poor technique but a solid punch. Not up there even with
    Gatti-Ward as a trilogy.

Pianeta, Seferi, Wallin, Swartz, Whyte, Cunningham, etc. Sure the Wlad win looks good on paper, like
Marciano's win over Louis, but we all know that intensely boring fight turned out.
