Fury could've been an all time great, but he messed around in several negotiations, cherrypicked, and avoided top competition. He will not be missed, he did this to himself. Amazing talent tho !
He was such a frustrating figure. I know he could have been rated among the greatest. Could have ruled the division for a decade with 20+ title defenses while remaining undefeated. His lack of discipline prevented him from doing so. A shame really.
No, but that is not because I don't value his contribution, it is just that I am ready to move on from the circus. He gave us some good fights. All three Wilder fights, the Usyk fights, the McDermott fights, Cunningham and Wallin were all good stuff, and I will even say that I enjoyed the Klitschko fight. But Outside of the big Joshua showdown, I think he took it as far as it will go.
Not active enough so I won’t miss him. He does deserve credit for smashing Deontay to bits and facing Usyk. I will always have an issue with his disrespect for Wlad. By messing him around by agreeing to the rematch, then chickening out of it. He effectively destroyed Wlads career because by the time he was able to fight again he was 40+ and inactive.
Nope. Anyway, He’ll be all over social media seeking attention by calling out whoever’s relevant until he becomes a carbon copy of his father.
Yeah. I'll miss him b/c there were times he was funny. Sometimes unintentionally. When there wasn't much doing he would say something outrageous which could lead to some interesting posts here. I won't miss him fighting Whyte 4 times though (no shade on Dillian). Like most people, I don't know how serious this retirement announcement is. It could easily be a way to get negotiating leverage.
I'm not burnt about any fight not happening - just providing examples of his failure to deliver. True AJ did not fight Wilder. But the common denominator of all these major fights falling through - or being so hard to negotiate - is ... Fury. Again, the situation would not be so bad had he not claimed he was the greatest continually without engaging in the fights to prove it - that's on him. Usyk has never had these problems throughout his whole career ... In fact the Usyk fights only happened because of the Saudi money. Fury even stated - on multiple occasions - he did not want to fight him. What sort of championship behaviour is that from the supposed best of his generation? And the only Ali 'circus fight ' I can recall is v Inoki, though he certainly had a bit of a world tour in the 1970s. But the difference is that Ali - even Mayweather - had already cleared out the division first. Fury did not. He wanted the easy \ gimmick fights without having proved he was the best first. I'm not trying to knock him unnecessarily - I think he was entertaining at times and showed flashes of greatness but, as a fan, the bad eventually outweighed the good. I do agree that you need a touch of the delusion to become a great boxer - which i did acknowledge that in the first post.
Gave us some good fights (wilder and usyk) but golly gosh we had to endure all sorts of mental torture, sympathy, gaslighting and delays and general pissing about to get there.
