Definitely agree with this. The common denominator was fury in a lot of this, he held a lot of people up with lies and dishonest behaviour. The lack of integrity from the gypsy king was his worst trait.
He won't stay retired Despite the Joshua fight lacking the prestige when they were seen as 1 and 2, it will sell more than any fight right now Usyk is the man, but he doesnt have close to the star power. When Fury was fighting usyk both times, I could count on my hand how many non boxing fans asked about it You know when these 2 fight, every casual will be all over it and the build up will create major hype, despite were they stand today Both will make a boatload of money and Fury will not walk away from it. If he does? Then he really is afraid of Aj and doesnt want to get sparked
Not really. He could be deeply unlikeable at times. Calling Usyk silly names, insulating he lost because of global politics etc etc Talented boxer, beaten by Usyk but had his moments in both fights. Probably didn't have the engine to do more against one of the highest-output fighters we have seen at heavy for a while. Wasted his best years and some strange matchups, Chisora 3 anyone? He was likely done after the Ngannu farce, his biggest attribute was always how well he could move for someone so big which peaked at Wilder 2. Interesting fighter to watch. He could box on the front foot or back and if he needed to go to war he could. He could be hurt but always got up and and took on Wilder when many wouldn't but will always have that question mark that the really should have faced more top opposition. Wlad Wilder Whyte Usyk as top line opponents is good, but a bit too much filler to rank him with the greats and he didn't be Usyk which will hurt his standing long term.
He's missed because previous eras tend to be nostalgised, it was hated at the time as this forum at the time attests. Also comical that Wlad wasn't a ducker. He had no honour in or out of the ring.
Fury has been pretty unsavoury over the years, but in this particularly sport he's pretty well behaved fundamentally. People just have very obvious double standards where when certain heroes commit actual violent crimes and so forth they excuse it as being 'underprivileged and unedumacated' but pretend Fury is from the English gentry. Sure it would be nice if he was more respectful like Usyk but at the same time Usyk is apparently friends with everyone including POS he has fought who disrespected him. That's where Fury was useful because he would give it back somewhat and produced some pretty hilarious pressers and taunts. Some of the insults he slung at Johnson, Haye, Chisora, Cunningham, Wlad, Wilder, AJ were needed and the stuff with Price was just funny in a schoolyard way. With Usyk it became tiresome because Usyk didn't warrant any of it from what we can tell and Fury was early 20's trying to make headlines (with Price). One of the most annoying things about Fury was actually his father and other members of that family. Without them he'd probably be hated a little less, actually. If he goes, people will realise just how uninteresting the majority of the HW division is both in terms of personality and fighting. Fury fought in various different ways and always put on some kind of 'show'. Even when it was boring to rewatch (Wlad), he still stuck some karaoke on the end walked out to a weird Jesus song.
I lived through that era and I wasn't hating it. Wlad fought everybody and that's the truth. Had more honour than Fury ever will.
This is the truth. Wlad was a good champion and good advert for the division. Fury is Fury, he can hardly be described as a good advert for boxing.
Honour, integrity, dignity etc all matter a hell of a lot in boxing. Today people dont appreciate them as much but they are all part of boxing. Part of the warrior code it’s not about an advert for boxing. It’s about a gladiator sport. Quite the opposite, fury has been an excellent publicity stunt guy for casuals, but he’s not been with honour/integrity
he has shamed Boxing, but not as bad as those who try and sell him off as a great... man, oh man, he is so far away from that that it honestly defies understanding. No.
