What if Tony Galento had faced the same 19 opponents that Ali fought in the early 1960s? Do you think he would have been able to beat them all and earn a title shot against Sonny Liston?

The HW division historically is filled with men with insane power with poor skill. True today was true yesterday so I’ll say yes.

The thought of Tony Galento fighting Sonny Liston would cause his family members to faint..

Galento gets hammered by Henry Cooper and doesn't get a shot at Liston...thus saving Tony's life.

His skills were not poor. They were non-existent. His physical tools were beyond wanting. The dawning era of athletic heavies that occurred in the 1960's would have relegated him to tough man competitions.

lol athletic heavies like Ruiz or skilled like Wilder. He was exceptionally poor I’ll give u that. But it’s not unusual in the division.

Name me that last 5 foot 8 goomba with a T-Rex reach who made the slightest dent in the division.

You’re getting way off base with the convo. Obsession with Italians makes me think a few shoved u in a garbage can a few times. The talk is of if Galento could have been a contender in the 60s. Could he have beaten Cooper? Or Zora? Doug Jones? Those gigantic monsters. Maybe maybe not. I do think the average skill set is a bar to high for 30s fighters.

The question is if Galento would have beaten the 19 opponents Ali had faced before he got a title shot against Liston. From these 19 opponents the most serious are Henry Cooper, Doug Jones and the ancient 4-year-old Archie Moore. So, do you think someone between them could have stopped Galento?

Tony was a New Jersian not an Italian. He was a great novelty act back in the day. But by the 60's we had more athletes participating in the sport. Tony would left out.

If he can get by Henry Cooper, Doug Jones, Billy Daniels and a very old Archie Moore then yes
