But not nearly as good a chin as Baer...Max would have thrashed him. It's possible Cooney would have beaten Carnera, but he would have lost it in his first defense..to either Baer, Braddock or Louis. Cooney's highlight reel was kayoing an old Ken Norton..then getting stopped himself by Holmes, Spinks...and Spinks KAYOED THE GUY!!!! A heavyweight Cooney's size..maybe a decision loss to Spinks, but he was beaten like a rag doll...then a loss to the old George Foreman...again he was bludgeoned...Cooney just had no chin...and that's why I say a guy like Max Baer would have destroyed him.

 

There's no way Gerry Cooney would have beaten Max Schmeling...Schmeling WAS NOT the weak link in that chain from '30 to '37...the only guy Cooney would have had a chance in unseating would have been Carnera..and Carnera was the better boxer.

Bummy, it would have been a spectacular win for Baer..on par with his ko of Pat Comisky...Maxie wouldn't have been put off by Cooney's size, not after facing Carnera, and a right or two would end it in the first round..maybe the second if Cooney was lucky.
