If GGG beats Canelo he needs to fight Ward for his legacy

It might not be much of a legacy, but its still better than I'm guessing 95% of boxers ever. Here's the thing, I'm not one of these GGG fans that think he is the greatest MW ever OR an ATG. I'm sort of reasonable that way. GGG has a better shot at beating Hopkins record than he does moving up and winning the title at 175 against Ward.

Wait--let me backtrack--I think GGG has a better shot at moving up and beating Stevenson than he does Ward.

Comparing anyone one or expecting anyone to do what Hopkins did is a big ask of anyone. The guy is a complete physical anomaly. There are but a handful of fighters that have been able to compete at that level into their 40s.

And again I agree, GGG(K2) taking all those step asides are on him. They were done because the other fighters/promoters said he would get the next fight. Even as late as Canelo/Khan. That was supposed to be an interim fight with GGG finally getting his shot after. And we all know what Canelo did instead. GGG/K2 got played.

GGG is getting on in years. Most likely on the downward slope now. Why risk moving up at this point when he can still be dominant at MW and break the record and get the bigger paydays at MW.

If GGG wins against Canelo, and Ward starts calling out GGG, which is the smarter move for GGG? Rematch Canelo or take on Ward?

If GGG smashes Canelo is rematching him smart? Nah probably not.

My point remains. Beating Hopkins record at MW doesnt equate to him being considered as great as Hopkins. Some people cant seperate that. They throw "hes gonna beat Hopkins record" around as if that puts him in the same stratosphere. Hopkins MW resume has been ripped here by Golovkins own fans. And he wouldnt be held in the same regard had he quit after it was over.

Well--I disagree--if GGG beats Canelo, and Canelo uses his rematch clause, it would be much smarter for GGG to take the rematch then to go up 15 pounds for Ward. He'd get more money and he'd be fighting a guy he already beat so most likely less risk. Thats the best business move right?

And I'm not saying he would be as great as Hopkins. I'm saying breaking the record punches his ticket to the HOF.

That's a terrible match up for GGG. He just needs to get his money and retire. Nobody cares about legacies besides dudes on forums.

Did Hagler have to move up for Spinks for his legacy, too? Seemed to work out just fine for the Marvelous one to let the smaller, bigger name Fab 4 fighters grow into (and in all three cases, out of) his division.
