And how would he do? If Golovkin (35 next year) can't get the fights vs Canelo, Saunders, Eubank Jnr or Jacobs by this time next year should he move to SMW rather than face a succession of weak mandatory Wades & Monroe Jnr's at MW? At SMW - lets leave all mention of former SMW King Ward out of this as he is a LHW now - how would Golovkin do? He'd certainly be the old, little guy in this division next to giant heavy hitters like 6'4 Callum smith or bigger , better boxers like DeGale or Dirrell (who beat him in the amateurs). It's a genuinely tough legacy call IMO (less so business wise)
id love to see ggg take on dirrell....obviously this dirrell isnt the same guy he was in 09...but it would still be interesting a guy like dirrell is the last guy ggg would face if he went up there though....
It's really not a tough call. There's more money at middleweight. Becoming undisputed at MW and breaking Bhop's record is better than going to SMW where he'd have no belts, be in same position as now in trying to get fights, no big names, and still favored to win- yes, even against guys like Degale and Dirrell. He's the closest he's ever been at unifying the titles. It'd be stupid to throw that away. He's becoming too much of a financial reward for opponents to say no.
