If GGG offered Mayweather a 150 catchweight- would Mayweather duck him?

Mayweather is a WW. Just a few months ago everyone was claiming he was going to duck a JMW. Now that fight is signed, and there are claims of him ducking a MW before he even gets a chance to fight the JMW that he was supposedly ducking, and that he just signed on to fight against.

If mayweather isn't a JMW, then he should relinquish any titles he's won to this point in that division.

Why? What would be the logic behind that?

You can't consider yourself a champion in a weightclass if you're not willing to defend it against the fighter who can make the weight limit.

It doesn't matter what you say can or can't happen. The WBA has Mayweather listed as their champion. So being that he's listed as a JMW champion, he can call himself a JMW champion if he wants.

If GG made that offer, I'd consider him the biggest ***** in the sport. GG can't offer or demand anything in boxing yet.

Wlod has never mentioned wanting to fight GGG. GGG has said his dream fight is Mayweather. And once Mayweather beats Alvarez, there's no realistic threats for him at 154-147

So your answer to the question posed in the thread is....

This thread takes me back to the days when Kellly Pavlick was the next big thing. Remember? He was KOing guys. Becoming an Atlantic city favorite. He was supposed to rule the middleweight division for years! LOL. Some people even talked about a fight with him and Mayweather(seriously).

Then Pavlick ran into a master boxer in the form of Benard Hopkins. We haven't heard of Pavlick since.

Give GGG some time. Let him fight Ward, master boxer and a fan of Mayweather, before we talk about Mayweather ducking him.

No, around previous day weighin. So if GGG can make 154 or even 150, he's a SWW, for the night at least. So the Wlod thing is really misplaced. It would make sense if Wlod offered to drop down to 168, where GGG is a current and 2x champ (lets pretend)

I'm not clear about your conclusion. What does fighting Ward have to do with Floyd ducking? You'r saying there's 2 kinds of gatekeepers to Floyd: some guys must beat Ward, other guys Berto?

I'm saying two things. First, that GGG is getting a similar type of hype as Pavlick got because he is a power puncher with impressive KO's on his resume. My point is that fans, even hardcore boxing fans, fall in love with power punchers even though they are untested, and that is not wise because, historically, they lose to master boxers.

Secondly, it would be easier for GGG to move up in weight and fight a less skilled and experienced boxer in Ward than it would be for him to drain himself to fight the more highly skilled vetran Mayweather. I want GGG to be comfortable when fighting a master boxer as opposed to being drained. Also, I would like him to have more experience with smart tactical fighters before fighting the smartest and most tactical boxer in the game right now, Mayweather.

In essence fighting Ward will prepare GGG for Mayweather, and defeating Ward will prove GGG is worthy to fight Mayweather. I hope the fight happens, but I doubt that GGG can get past Ward.

As far as the above relates to Mayweather possibly ducking Mayweather, I think it is silly to give him so much credit so early in his career because I think he would be too drained at 150 to compete with Mayweather at all. I even think that Mayweather can beat GGG at 160.

I think beating Ward would be much tougher than beating Floyd, who'd get crumpled, for example by a body shot. How about he beats Berto, that seems to work as Floyd eliminator?

Also, going up in weight would only make dropping down to SWW harder, and the Floyd fight is many times more lucrative. No brainer. Did you hear even Ward offered to drop down in weight for Floyd? But he can only go down to 160, so Floyd would have to move up. Not so with GGG.

Why would Ward be tougher than Floyd?

GGG at a healthy 160 wasn't crumpling Kassim Ouma, who he struggled with.

Kassim Ouma, known for being thoroughly abused by Mayweather in sparring.

GGG at a sickly 150 isn't "crumpling" with a body shot the best defensive boxer since Pernell Whitaker.
