The number of buys per PPV event is a meaningless and completely subjective indicator to any real world reality.
Look at the event to determine some indicator of it's actual worth.
Little g against Lemieux is a sub-level competition between to sub-level fighters no matter how you dress it up.
You can dress a $2 Ho in a $1000 dress, but in the end it's the still the same $2 Ho. :smoke

Pac and May were only doing 200-400k per fight before they fought De La Hoya. 250 is a good figure. That was about what Morales and Barrera were getting fighting each other at the end of their careers. I don't think anybody else has been getting more than that in recent years either. Not Hopkins, Martinez, Cotto, not anybody.

 

They've already granted exceptions (Geale). Your points are valid and can be directed at any ABC belt, but this one comes down to opinion and I'm of the one that they will follow through with their word this time and force things. It's a moot point if Canelo wins as I believe he has no issue taking on GGG/Lemieux. I suppose we'll have to wait until Dec to see how it all ends up playing out.

mayweather first three ppv averaged like 325k buys - An american, who speaks english, medaled in the olympic games.... those were solid numbers. Same range that DLH was in.

250k+ buys for a kazakh is pretty good in his first go around. Had he landed JCC jr he probably does 1m, froch could get 400k, maybe 400k for war. Canelo or Cotto also does over a million.

HE's right where you want him to be for a first ppv.

 

I will buy the Golovkin fight, he is exciting fighter to watch. This should be a real fight. SOB Ward can't draw flies and should fight in his own weight division against Kovalev, Stevenson, Beterbiev, etc. Golovkin has much bigger fights than Ward could ever dream of.................after he fights the winner of Alvarez/Cotto, then he has Andy Lee to fight........................Ward is going nowhere...................

 

Loeffer said that over 200k will be a success. So 400 000 would be a smash hit. Thats 10 mil from PPV alone: the gate, merchandise and foreign tv right will add significantly to it.
I highly doubt the PPV purses exceed 4 mil.
