We all know Golota was DQ'd twice against one Riddick Bowe, but what if he had fought fair in those fights? Would he have eventually become heavyweight champion of the world?

I believe he was ahead on points in both fights.
i havent seen the first in years, however i had seen
the second fight a month ago. Dont recall that card, but
I believe Golota was ahead. Bowe might have been able
to stop Golota in the last round though. Bowe underestimated
Golota in the first fight. If Bowe was in shape he would have
Stopped Golota. But to answer your question yes. Golota
was a headcase though. What he did was inexcusable.

Golota just had Bowe's number. What was so interesting is that Golota beat Bowe to the jab time and again. Million dollar body, ten cent brain.

I still dont understand what happen, Golota was winning the first fight, ahead on points, than he goes low and gets DQ. Perhaps he forgot were to punch or something.???

In the rematch, the trainer was talking about teaching Golota to keep his punchings up, and not punch below the belt. And making a big deal about this even having a clip of Golota punching a a bag with shorts on it. And how he learn his lesson.

Fight happens, Golota is again winning, and again he goes low again.
I still to this day dont understand why Golota thown away what could have been wins. Yeah the 2nd fight had the riot.

Ok. My memory is pretty bad. Its been over 12 years, Pretty much what I recall is 2 fights, Golota low blows Bowe and gets DQ, with Golota ahead on points in both cases, Riot in ONE of em, and Golota punching a bag with shorts on it and "learning his lesson" or something.

He would have own first Bowe fight. After al the attention he was not same fighter. Thing is, Bowe did an act in going down in first fight. He got hit in hip, and while low, it is not like punch to balls. He also took low blow to side of leg, and grabbed balls like he got hit there, and went down with expression of pain on his face worthy of an academy award.

Second fight Golota just psyched out over foul allegations, and just ****ed up. He kept going downhill from there.

Golota was ahead on points in the second fight??

Golota was ****ing destroying Bowe that night. He dropped and badly hurt Bowe in round 2, used his longer reach to constantly out jab Bowe and landed literally hundreds of flush power shots. Golota landed at a better than 70% connect rate which basically means Bowe was incapable of defending himself and apart from a knockdown in the fifth the only thing keeping Riddick in there was his heart.

To be honest if Bowe's corner and management had've given two shits about him they'd have stopped the fight well before the round 9 DQ.

As to whether Golota could've held a title the answer to that is no. He was a mental pygmy and didn't have a champions heart plus he had a nasty habit of freezing every time he met a big puncher. He had the physical tools but he didn't come close to having what it took upstairs imo.

    Yes.

Golota was really beating him up bad in that second fight.

The thing of it is, Golota just didn't have it mentally. By the time he matured a bit mentally, around the time of the Byrd and Ruiz fights, his physical skills had long deteriorated from age and injury.

Golota basicaly quit in both fights.

The brain is the weakest link in the human body, and if it wan'ts out os a situation in can be verry inventive in finding mways out. The mental squence works a bit like this:

    1. I would rather die than quit.
    2. I won't quit, but if I did loose would there realy be any shame in it.
    3. This is how I would explain it to people if I did loose.
    4. What is the first thing I would do if somebody else took matters out of my hands e.g DQ or corner pulling me.

Therfore the point at which a fighter will foul out comes significantly before the point at which they will quit on their stool.

Furthermore the stongest psychological pressure to quit dosn't actualy come from physical pain which is relativley easy to rationalize. The factor most likeley to make a fighter quit is the beleif that they can't win, and are taking their beating for nothing.

Lisbon is awesome. One of my favorite towns. Unfortunately, I am no longer there. Too lazy to change my location.
