He's faced some of the most mediocre competition of any middleweight champ in history. He's faced ONE fighter - Daniel Geale - who held any version of the 160-pound title. ONE. Beating only Geale doesn't get you in the Hall of Fame. A guy like Jermain Taylor faced middleweight champs Hopkins twice, Joppy, Soliman, as well as Pavlik and Abraham. And he's not being discussed, either. Golovkin isn't even in the ballpark.
You can only face who is willing and available to fight. Anybody who dominates a classic division like middleweight for this long is HOF.
Ggg is awesome but to even consider him for the HOF at this point would be an insult to the sport and an even bigger insult to Ggg and his most loyal supporters.
A "classic" division? He fought Milton Nunez for a vacant belt. He's never won the lineal title. He has only faced ONE fellow beltholder. He's not even trying. The WBA ALONE has three middleweight champs. He's only one of them. Golovkin needs to fight Andy Lee, Billy Joe Saunders (should he beat Lee), David Lemieux, Matt Korobov ... challenge super middleweights Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm or George Groves ... ... force Haymon to the table by telling the WBA he wants to defend against his mandatory Daniel Jacobs ... or tell the WBA he wants to fight the interim champ Chris Eubank Jr. ... or work out some deal with Haymon to fight Kid Chocolate or James DeGale. He calls out Cotto and Ward, who are looking elsewhere. Then says nobody wants him. Meanwhile, there are a dozen top fighters all around him. Wake up. If he wants to go to the hall of fame, travel the world and fight other champs. There are plenty around. Plenty. Don't fight the winner of the ESPN BOXCINO tourney.
Absolutely not. Why do people keep lowering the bar for the HoF and "greatness" overall? And I'm a big GGG fan. Think he's a beast. But come on.... his resume is well, not very good if you're going to go for the whole "hall of fame, GGG is a great fighter" argument. It just can't be made at this time based on his in the ring accomplishments.
Exactly. He's got pound for pound ability but he's going to have to beat a few elite guys to be considered for the Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame standards should be quite a bit higher than they are, in my opinion.
