No. I actually don't think there is the level of competition around right now to make him the top MW even if he beat the lot of them. It's not his fault. The bar is extremely high. Starting with this guy: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/9019 And this guy: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/21553 And this guy: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/9036 And of course: http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/8684 There are more MW's with extreme resumes around.
The best MW currently? He's already that. Until someone beats him he has that title. You could argue that since he's way past his peak and the division is stacked that even if someone beats him they aren't the clear #1. Of all time? **** no lmao. How would beating Canelo prove that? All time p4p? God no. Top 5 p4p currently? Yes.
Let's put this in perspective. Here's Mendoza, who is an excellent poster, putting up the argument that Golovkin is a top 15 MW of all time. And the guys in Classic give him a hard time about it: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/why-i-think-ggg-is-a-top-15-all-time-middleweight.605921/
an intradivisional win is great, a true proof of elitedom, and is a door to HoF, even though it may not be enough to go through it. being a ATG MW is beyond that door though, anyone pretending different knows the lie they are telling. HOwever if 3G does blows Chunks to bits at SMW, and beats Groves then ATG is there. Going top in two weights is HoF and would lead to being ATG worthy. Having 2 elite wins and an elite draw would surely be enough to be knocking on that door. AND being number 1 in 2 divisions is on par with AndreWardsque (lets not forget hes already proved as good as the best LMW too) as to who is best MW h2h, hes proved he is equal first with canelo...so if he kos him or just beats him by one point, hes unrivalled number 1 MW h2h today. the other side of the coin is that if canelo even beats GGG by one point, 3G's elite status becomes precarious but not undone. He will have been the number 2 MW all this time, not number 1. A lot clearly rests on what 3G does in his next 2-3 fights. He has kinda left the hard work till last.
He;s already beaten Canelo but got shafted. He's GOT to KO him to get a win in Sept that's obvious. GGG has beaten every man they put in front of him No one can do more than that He's top 5 for sure
If GGG doesn't go into then HOF then burn the place down You say Floyd is a shoo in I think the Hall of Shame is the place for him
I don't understand what we're saying when we say top 5 though. Top 5 MW ever? Top 5 pfp currently? Top 5 pfp ever? Because based on career results, which is all we can really go by, only one of those is true. Other people have just done way too much in the sport. Because of the way things are now it is very difficult for a modern fighter to crack into those ranks.
Who exactly has Golovkin beat to make him an ATG? Danny Jacobs? Martin Murray? Matthew Macklin? I mean all average MWs. Jacobs went from decent to elite overnight simply because he was very competitive. I think that shows more about Golovkin's limits rather than Jacobs' greatness. Sure beating and stopping Canelo will be a great name, but Canelo himself hasn't proven his worth at 160. He's technically only beaten two welterweights at 160. The way things stands, win or loss, Golovkin scrapes Hall of Fame status due to his longevity and cult status but in terms of an all time great, he'd really need to start reinventing the wheel. Currently he has no hope. In beating Canelo he'd be effectively be beating a blown up super welter.
GGG faced & beat every man put in front of him PLEASE!!! tell me any 160 pounder he ducked??? You cannot he's not ducked anyone. He beat, but got shafted against a juiced to the gills Canelo. Who in turn got clowned by Floyd & arguably lost to both Lara & Trout
