We are talking middleweights right, Sugar Ray Robinson (yes I know, best years at welterweight) , Carlos Monzon, Greb and many others, some real legendary fighters. Golovkin wouldn't beat a prime Mike McCallum in my opinion, it's a good fight in my head though, a very good fight. Julian Jackson Vs Golovkin is another fight that makes me drool at the thought. And even fighters like Hagler, Nunn, Toney, RJJ and even fighters like Kalambay at 160 give him real problems. Golovkin is the best middleweight as it stands right now (his era) and has been for the last few years in my opinion but the level of opposition has been average at best and the depth of talent has been average at best, probably poor to be honest. No fault of Golovkins, it's just the way it is, he can't be held responsible because there are not a list of other top middleweights to fight but we have to realistic and go back and look at some of the real top quality talent there has been over the years and with respect to Golovkin I don't think he does that well against many of them.
But you forget clenelo STILL claims to be the lineal 160 pound champion. He also claimed to be WBC middleweight champion till he handed back like a wimp rather than fight for it like any REAL Mexican would
Just like to add.. if Golovkin stops Canelo, I'll run through this forum in just my pants.. Nope, Ill better that, I'll do it with just a sock covering my manhood. I'll run right through the General, straight in the the British and all the way through the Classic and I'll even pop in the MMA. CST80 and IB and the rest of the BF24 firm won't catch me, I run like the wind blows.
It isn't just about who he has beaten. It is about the dominance he has shown. Also Canelo is not a blown up JMW. He's a lock for HoF. ATG not so much but there isn't a set criteria for these things anyway. It becomes one's own personal list with their own arbitrary standards when you really break it down. A lot of bias comes into place. That being said I think the argument for Golovkin being the best MW because he beats Canelo by KO is VERY weak. I agree with you, but the argument made for Golovkin isn't solely about exactly who he has beaten but how and the way he pretty much had an entire division terrified of him.
He didn't hand it over GGG was STRIPPED in a very strategic move. The last thing the Alphas want is an undisputed champion , STRIPPING or CORRUPTION are the ONLY way they can steal their trinkets back from the REAL World Middleweight champion. Ant no 160 pounder out there can beat him in a fair fight
mayweather horrible man though he is, is an obvious case for atg. ggg - might do 2 divisions...floyd... i've lostcount, the gulf is massive. look at the one common opponent.... Canelo moving up, matched 3G. old Floyd moving up four divisions, easily beat Canelo. Massive gulf.
How could you not?of course some will bring up Golovkins age but at the end of the day he’s still an unbeaten champion of God knows how long.
Yep that’s fair enough re his longevity, shame that his division was less than great but I do believe in his pomp he’d of done well against all comers.
ggg does not have the resume to be top 5, he has shown the dominance needed for a top 5, and the longevity, just missing the names.
Very fair post and re those names you mentioned it would of been great to see him against em and it’s my opinion he’d have some losses which is absolutely ok and in reality before the Floyd keep your zero psy op is how it should be.
